If you hit a spotted mech before it is detected should you get detection rewards?

I often hit and sometimes kill mechs that my ‘sensors’ don’t or can’t detect,
yet I get no rewards for spotting them because they have not been detected!

Short answer: No

Long thought out response why: There's already a lot of questionable players running around in the game as is, some with magical aim skills, others with unseeming canniness to find you despite you've never even been in sight of them the entire match. Adding in a mechanic that award that gives a bonus for detecting a mech before your sensors do will just give an even bigger boost to those that do use cheats.

Well, the above post is ridiculous.

How the spotting bonus works is this: You get a spotting bonus for targetting an enemy mech, and having someone else entirely pick up the target from you (they don't have LOS and wouldn't see the mech on radar otherwise) and firing LRM's or what have you at them(and hitting).

The bonus isn't for being the one to see the enemy, so killing them obviously doesn't net you a spotting bonus, the bonus is for sharing the targetting information with your team.

This isn't a spotted bonus. This is detected, IE you use your little eye and shoot someone instead of relying on your radar to point them out to you or your target triangle to appear over their head first.
