I wouldn't say that. Both topics are quite articulate and well presented. I just happen to vehemently disagree with one of them and the philosophy that caused it.

What because one's so good a troll it has moderators posting in it and this one is serious?

There is a reason posting anything serious on these forums is pointless and thats explained in the third person view thread. IE we're so small a minority, they dont want to know what we think

I'm not sure if no one understands the word "troll" or it's meaning in popular usage has changed, but that moderator should've instantly closed that topic rather than posted it. There is a dangerous culture of dev-persecution and hero worship developing here on the forums. When it gets really bad, it's almost fetishistic, and simultaneously inspires cringing and destroys the utility of the forums.

K-town is the part of the MW:O forum where all the best threads go to finish their lives bathed the glory of gratuitous posting and surrealist banter that would give Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali conniption fits of jealous rage.

Also, I added content to that post that is actually relevant to your thread. There is a reason that posting in General Discussion is pointless, and that reason is the players who post. That's a tldr version in case my edit came too late. :P

Its just too bad "Game Balance" and "Suggestions" don't get more activity. That's usually where the good discussions get hidden, but at least they're trying. There are far more people itching to post in "General Discussion."

It's a self-<something or other> system. We post crap, the devs write off the forums, we post even worse crap.

Like some sort of perverse MobiusStripOfApathyWarrior:Online or something.

Is it too much to want good content in general?

It is?

I'll stick to guides then. Well, I should.

That's ridiculous. There was an ocean of tears about the marauder at the launch of StarCraft 2 that would shatter your ******* world if you got this upset about missiles and 3rd person. Blizzard never nerfed them, never discussed nerfing them, probably never had any plans to nerf them, and hilariously, buffed them at one point.

Your edit puts the blame for an "overreaction" on people on the forum instead of PGI. It's. . . it's laughable. And before you type up an angry response (because I get that), just think about it. I think, since you're a smart guy, you'll be forced to agree it's nonsense.

(And just as a closing remark, let me state once again that I have posted now just under 850 times, and of those 16 have been new topics. I am not one of those people Roadbeer is complaining about, and I still think it is absolutely ridiculous to complain about people using the General Discussion forum for general discussion.)

Self-perpetuating, or you could also call it a negative feedback loop (or a positive feedback loop, if you want to be technical, but that sounds wrong).

Of course it got jetted. It was a response to a totally irrelevant meta topic that actively promotes crap behavior, albeit possibly unintentionally.

In related news, guess what happened to Roadbeer's topic?

I have no idea where you think I am upset about missiles. I'm like one of 5 people on the forum who understand the current state of missiles and it's place in the history of missiles in this game. And yeah, I think Mechwarrior is no place for a 3rd person view. I don't think 3rd person view belongs in racing games either, but that's kind of beside the point. I guess those were supposed to be for comparison, but since I don't play SC2 the comparison is lost. :P

I know nothing about Blizzard, I will admit that. You cannot deny the example set by Planetside 1; however, that game's developers caved to the slightest inkling of a tear and it ruined the game in so many ways. Since PS1 there have been games that learned from this lesson, and games that have not. I'd prefer it if MW:O were one of the latter. Sadly, it does not seem to be going that direction.

No angry responses here buddy. I'm an angry guy by nature, but I prefer to vent it in more constructive ways. Full disclosure: I do not always succeed.

By definition, an over-reaction is a reaction. By definition (in this usage) a reaction is a response by an individual. Individuals are responsible for their own actions; therefore, individual players are responsible for their own over-reactions to game conditions. Really not that ludicrous at all. I made no comments regarding the amount of responsibility PGI/IGP hold for the steady state of negative feedback - because that wasn't on the table at the time. You've simply extrapolated that out of my omission. I think my post history is pretty clear on my opinion of the developer side of the communication coin.

The problem is that they are not. They are using GenDisc for items that should be going into Game Balance, Patch Feedback, or Suggestions. Furthermore, a healthy majority of the threads that wind up here just amount to a tear bucket over whatever the hot issue of the moment happens to be. I'd love to come to General Discussion and have a nice, pleasant chat about the various maps and more creative paths to follow than the usual slog to the "fight at the usual roughly center of the map spot," but said thread would just sink to the bottom of the pile as the latest "ERMAGERD ECM ATE MY DINGO" thread gets thousands of "He Said, She Said" responses.

Fun fact:

As of the writing of this post, there are 19,441 topics in all of the sections under the heading "Support and Feedback," and 4300 of those are in the "Archive."

There are 26,407 in General Discussion alone.

Seems legit.
