Simple question: Do you have any oaths regarding loadout choices/setup?

I have a few:
I shant equipith PPC whilst ER PPC ist availith.
I shant equipith Streaks whilstout ER PPC.
I shalt achievith perfect armor point symmetry.

I know it's not just the mechs that have quirks! Mechwarriors have em too!

If the community condemns a weapon as sucking, I'm more likely to put it on my Atlas. MGs and flamers being the exception. I put those on my hunch G.

I move all the armor from my front torso to the rear. This is how I am preparing for the 6 MG Spider. They'll never think to shoot me in the front.

Thou shall not use boats.
Thou shall not use ECM.
Thou shall not use Streaks.

Thou shalt not equip ERLL.

That's about it.

This is my Hunchback. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My Hunchback is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My Hunchback, without me, is useless. Without my Hunchback, I am useless. I must fire my Hunch true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...

My Hunchback and I know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, or the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit...

My Hunchback is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its Cockpit and its Controls. I will keep my Hunchback clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...

Before Mead, I swear this creed. My Hunchback and I are the defenders of the FRR. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until victory is Rasalhague's and there is no enemy, but peace!

5 tons, more heat efficient than ERPPC, decent range, what's wrong with it?

For my own:

"use what works."

The range increase doesn't offset the drawbacks in my opinion. Too much heat for too little range on a DOT weapon. It is near impossible to keep all of it's damage on a single segment at even half of it's optimum range, let alone at full range.

I also don't like ERPPCs much, but I do take the ballistics lag into account when I weigh up the pros and cons of a weapon.

I shall endeavor to use as few "optimal" builds as possible
I shall endeavor to use as many underused weapons as possible (Flamer and MG are too terrible even for me)
I shall fit both ERLLs and AC/5s and chortle heartily while killing people with them
I shall have leg armor no lower than my arm armor.
I shall always fit the maximum number of jumpjets available.

Thou shall unleash the MG when thy need is great so thy team may hear the dakka of thy desperation (in my defence I had a spare ballistic slot but not enough space for a second AC... and until they allow me to buy a 0.5 tonne SOS beacon and a tonne of batteries to run it, so my team knows when I need assistance, it will do)

After I got a mouse with a sensitivity button it has increased my ability to hit far targets accurately with lasers a lot.

Oh yeah, I do just fine with my accuracy with lasers. What I'm getting at with the ER variant is that lasers are a difficult weapon to keep on a single segment at maximum range, especially when you're moving. When the range gets even longer, it gets harder still (near the point of impossibility) to keep them on that single segment.

When you combine the additional heat with the unreliability of doing concentrated damage to a target at the kinds of range where the ER variant specifically differs from it's regular variant, it's not worth it.

Compare that to a PPC, which can pinpoint it's damage on one segment at very respectable ranges without the necessity of tracking, and the ERLL just doesn't cut it.

Yes the ERLL is hot, but zoomed in and with good mouse/steady hand it's super-easy to hit people at 1000+m with it on Tourmaline and Alpine.
It's also smaller and lighter than a PPC, plus easier to hit fast or erratically moving targets.

Thou shalt not be enslaved by the Heat Efficiency bar.

Alpha is Truth. Lesser builds will be cast down and burn in eternal laser fire.

Thou shall not XL the fatty.
