I don't understand how the OP's post has anything to do with heresy?

Catchy word yes, but it was the only reason I dropped into the thread...misleading ;)

Speed is important to both offense and defense. Offense - can get to the action quicker thereby racking up more damage. Defense - getting behind cover.

There was an argument about speed in an other thread this was largely to collect data to see if existing theories held out and whether common wisdom was in fact common.

It was a liberal use of a catchy word for a title to draw people in but hey originally I wanted to use Apostacy, which would have been even more wrong.

One thing that I don't feel is appropriately reflected here although I am not sure how it would change the answers...

Depending on the mech chassis and role I want it to play I make a decision about whether I am going to use an XL or Std engine up front as part of the Loadout. Scouts always use an XL (speed is life). Otherwise, torso twist rate plays into the decision (how well can I twist to keep someone from picking on a shoulder) as does intended l intend to use the mech (200m optimal, 500m optimal or sniping).

My answers above are based on the mechs and roles I enjoy most in each weight class and that throws the last question for a loop. I never buy a mech without planning out at least one build for it on Smurfy and even within a single chassis (e.g. Stalkers or Cats) the role that I want to play has a greater impact on engine and speed choices than the weight class. This is probably most notable when comparing a Cicada build with a Hunch or Jager build. They're all mediums but one is an XL build where speed is life and the other two are brawlers who expect to lose shoulders and need to keep fighting.

I think some of the question/answer sets don't properly convey how I would go about building a mech. I spend enough time on smurfy's mechlab and it's not exactly that hard to build a mech given the constraints (hardpoints, speed, weapon loadouts, etc).

I have a pretty good idea of what I want to build in mind and just build it. It's not specific to a mech or build, but not everyone will spend the time like myself to figure it all out. It takes some time to build a mech.

With that said, I'm pretty sure my answers to your poll will blow your mind (or not, it doesn't matter). :(
