Please note that this particular post contains at least one element contrary to every previous Mechwarrior game (1-4, vengence, mercs, and mechassault 1/2) i have played.

One of the current complaints is the alpha problem (in short, burst damage is better than an equal level of sustained damage in DPS). Double heat sinks are too amazing. Included is a rough solution to both.

Problem: is unfriendly to hunchbacks.

This would require a more substantial mechanical/meta rework, but being a beta, is not entirely unconscienceable.

1) Heat sinks (double hetasinks do the same) now reduce heat generated by weapons or internal devices by 0.1 which are in the same section.

2) *Engines all contain single heatsinks (this solves the double heatsinks being too amazing problem and might allow them to be ungraded to have 2x heatink values again).

3) When multiple weapons are fired simultaneously in a section they generate "additional" heat (yay, physics!). Small energy weapons generate 0.1 per Weapon, per weapon (i.e. 3 small lasers would generate +0.3x3), medium lasers generate 0.2*w^2, large lasers generate 0.4*w^2, and ER/PPCs would generate 0.5*w^2. Cannons would generate 0.2w^2, Machine guns would generate 0.1w (min 0), Missiles would generate LRM 0.01w^2*T (number of tubes used), SRM 0.2*w^2, SSRM 0.1w^2.

Why 1? It is much easier and more effective to cool items in close proximity to your cooling device them items which require coolant to be pumped 2-5 meters there and another 2-5 meters back. This also encourages putting heatsinks in the same section as your weapons, instead of some random place, and they compete for critical slots.

Why 2? As double heatsinks take 3x as much space, it requires some kind of black magic to make an engine remain the same size and strenght while devoting 3x as much room to it's heatsinks. As such, making all of the automatic heat sinks singles makes the problem of double heatsinks being a must, to a ponderable question, and is a whole lot more sane. This balances singles vs doubles, and can potentially allow double heat sinks to return to being double heat sinks.

Why 3? Due to the maintained surface area, there is a limit as to how fast and how much heat can be effectively used to absorb heat. Due to this firimg multiple weapons simultaneously stresses the capacity of shared heat sinks, producing exessive amounts heat on heat induction surface (the thing in the heatsink itself that absobs heat from the coolant fluid) and making it impossible to swiftly ameliorate the heat bystoring it, allowing to to be emitted, or ejecting it. In short: your ability to absorb heat is limited by your materials.

Any questions?

Any comments?

Please remeber that comments like "it is bad and you should feel bad," or "this is amazing" are not productive; please explain why it is terrible or amazing.
