Hello everybody,

I have just a little problem with the game launcher but it is totally nerve-stretching.

I can copy my password out of keepass (or any other passwordsafes), but I can't paste it into the game launcher.
I change my passwords regularly and I use keepass because I'm old an my memory isn't good as before. Furthermore I use very complicated passwords, for example: e/Wf8}=Kt\tC/t,265Aa8HWgz0h.
The game launcher don't allow me to paste passwords. I need to insert this long password by hand. This is nerve-stretching.

Please Devs change the way the game launcher handles copy/paste. I want to buy some MCs.
But at the moment I have to use an short password without additional characters and this is unsafe.

Regards
DonCraig

A password without @(&*^$%@(*$^&!)(*@$&) is unsafe? Where the hell are you playing from? Prison?

Come up with a twelve character password that mixes letters, numbers, and upper/lower case that you CAN remember. Use L337$P34|< (leetspeak -- Google it) if you have to. But twelve characters should be enough that even if somebody was watching over your shoulder they wouldn't be able to figure out your password.

Key thing to remember when creating a password: Use something you can type in successfully the first time, and preferably take less than 20 minutes to do so.

Hello again,

Maybe. On the other hand MWO is not my only service with a password protection. I can remeber 10 passwords like this 12 letter leetspeak or what ever. Ok one for MWO, the other 9 for facebook, google+, skype... and so on. I can do it, but I won't.
My post isn't an discussion, it is a request. I want it! And I told it the Devs.
Look at the subforum. SUPPORT & FEEDBACK .
You have a different view, ok, no problem for me. You can remeber every unique password for all of your services, ok. You are a true hero. I can't do this.
I use every single character for a password. If I can make a password with 65 characters, than I will do it. I will use special signs, I will use punctation marks if it is allowed.

Remember Durant Carlyle, we are all different. Your opinion is important but I will not follow you. Use leetspeak or what ever. You can even use your name or your birthday. I don't care.

You are right Syllogy. That's the way I remeber the passwords for every day use. But I have detected a problem after 7-10 passwords. They are not unique enough. It is not the problem for facebook or other unimportant services.

I won't buy MCs if I can't use random passwords. This is just a suggestion. It will take five minutes to implement this feature in the game launcher or just set the copy/paste bit to 1.

This is NOT a discussion, it is a suggestion. Do it or leave it. There is more than one right opinion.

DonCraig

ps: Durant Carlyle, really, you are a true hero, go on!

So been playing MWO for a few weeks now and finally decided to search the forums to see when this bug would be fixed. Amazed it's considered a feature.

Like others who have opined on this topic in other threads I have random passwords for all my online accounts - have ever since Steam and Battlenet both got hacked in the same month some time ago.

The security idea behind random passwords for mmo's is that when a particular game house loses control of their database, they possibly lose your password AND email credentials together. For 95% of people online that means a password reset across the board for most of their online accounts has just become mandatory - as most people use the same username/pw across the board, because "it has to be something I am going to remember".

The reason not having copy+paste of the login amazes me is not so much because it makes our lives harder as users (it does, but I just open my lastpass vault and manually enter the 20 digit string - not a huge biggie - and I suspect many other MWO users do the same) but... most people will not do this. They will use the same p@ssw0rd they use on their email, twitter, battlenet, so on and so forth - and that makes MWO itself less secure, plain and simple because users are going to obviously choose weaker passwords that they also use everywhere else.

I work as a sysadmin and I guess my thesis here is that the job of securing any large online system is hard enough without making decisions that inherently give your mech a bit of a crit to the foot actuator right out of the gate :)

Here are a couple of things that can help:

1) Because there is no trading, there is no gold farming, so really no one is trying to steal your MWO account.

2) The whole "uppercase and lowercase and punctuation and numbers and omgwtf" school of thought is out-of-date.
