The .NET framework is from Microsoft, it's really not very likely to "ruin Windows". However, if you need to install it, there should be a pop-up window stating that, it shouldn't just stall out the bootstrap patcher as you describe. Any chance you can post what's in your bootstrap patcher logs? This file is in the game's Bin32\PatcherLogs folder, and it's called bootstrap_patcher_log.txt.

2013.04.16. 21:56:36 - main - Config file: C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\PatchBot.cfg
2013.04.16. 21:56:36 - main - Setting null proxy to False
2013.04.16. 21:56:36 - main - Local patcher version: 17
2013.04.16. 21:56:36 - main - Checking patch inventory.
2013.04.16. 21:56:36 - main - Connecting for maintenance check.
2013.04.16. 21:56:36 - main - Fetching patch inventory data..
2013.04.16. 21:56:36 - main - Remote patcher version: 17
2013.04.16. 21:56:36 - main - Already up-to-date

it's strange because it's do nothing on my laptop..
on the desktop now it's crash and says I need to install framenetwork 4.0asjldsajd version
(laptop is with win7 and the desktop pc is with XP)

the game was perfectly okay this morning on both pc when I played!

Well, the .NET framework is a new requirement as of today, so that explains why it's now required on your desktop. But as for your laptop, I'm not sure. Can I assume that the log you posted is from your laptop? And that's where the bootstrap patcher (ie. just the MWO logo in the center of the screen) is hanging?

For XP you will need .NET 4.0 installed first, it can be found here:

Win7 64bit, just tried to patch and getting error msg: MWOPatcher.exe - .NET Framework Initialisation Error. Must first install v4.0.30319. Contact your app publisher for instructions about obtaining appropriate version.... It's killed my game ;)

Ok...you need to just do as it says and install .NET 4.0:

(or did you already try that?)

I always have to same first question - is it possible you ran out of disk space? If you have installed the game to a different drive, be sure to also check your primary Windows drive (unless you relocated the game's temp directory).

I had 5.7GB free on the drive I have MWO installed (not c:) and plenty more free on c, I figured it was enough as the patch requires 5.5 GB. Made some 20 GB more space on the instal drive, didn't help, reinstalled .NET framework, didn't help. Still craches without error message at the exact same point.

Ps. running Win7 64bit

Good response, answers my question and my follow-ups. So you say that the logs don't indicate anything. Does it at least report an exception or anything? Or is the last line just the "downloading..." line?

Oh, wait, the log file you should be checking is frontend_patcher_log.txt. Please take a look at that one and post anything that stands out (probably the last handful of lines).

Patcher simply vanishes after downloading the first of three patches. I'm running Win8 x64, and have .net 4.0 installed.

Where is the infamous "auto-patch" feature that was in the frontend patcher? I remember a thread on it, but I cannot off the top of my head recall where this feature was... (hint: it probably needs better visibility).

Up in the top-right, to the left of the minimize button, there's a button that looks like two gears or something. That's the options button. Note that this button is disabled once the patching process starts.

Thanks Krist, got some more help from Viterbi, all is in working order now. The log showed that Objects.pak__new was corrupted.

Excellent news, very glad to hear that your problem was solved. And I appreciate you letting me know what the actual problem was, hopefully I can reproduce it and fix it for the next patcher update.

Enjoy the game!

I sometimes (especially since my main computer is currently down with hardware failure) play using my media PC on my living room HD Television. It is 1080P but I set it to 720P so I can read things from the couch. I was unable to accept the new terms of service because the "Accept" button didn't render in that small of a desktop space.

I increased the desktop to 1080P but the buttons did not re-render (I say "re" even though they never actually rendered in the first place). I had to decline the terms by pressing the "X" at the top since the "Cancel" button also did not render (but I am less concerned with that since the "X" does the same thing).

After declining, being sure to leave my desktop at 1080P, I restarted the patcher and was asked again to accept the terms. This time, the "Accept" and "Cancel" buttons were present.

I don't think the patcher did a good job of making sure my executables are the same as the server that hosts the files. I downloaded them from the server directly this time around, and found that one of the files was in fact DIFFERENT from what I had (in terms of filesize)... so it wasn't good enough. I think my .pak files are fine (no errors), but whatever it is, my files are simply not in sync with the server and I've been getting a lot more "need 40MB of memory" CryEngine errors...

The odd thing is, my patcher logs suggest there wasn't any issues...

I'll contact you Krist tomorrow about this.

So I just quit the game from within a match where I was The Invisible Catapult. The servers thought I saw walking into a wall for all 6 minutes and I was walking around w/ everybody ignoring me.

When I started the game back up, it wanted to patch again, which I thought was odd, because it's pretty late for a hot-patch. Here's what's happening:

LOLWUT?

And here's what happens after 15 minutes of downloading all of that:

Yea.. the patcher has issues.

I see the nifty new tab to select a temp download location, but there's no auto-patch option that I can find (there's only one option in the gears dropdown that I can see).

Thanks. Please, if you don't mind, keep me posted on this. It's quite unexpected in any situation and I'd like to know if it persists.

Krist, Download worked fine at home, all is well. Thanks for you help!

Started Patcher, let it do its own thing while I did something else, finished fine.
Like the change where it estimates time to finish.
Noticed I had to Accept some agreement to Patch, is this saved somewhere in a file in case I have to reference it again?

I tried re-installing the .NET v.4 framework. It won't allow me to do so.
I did a repair of .NET v4.5 and MWO is still not working for me.

Should I try contacting Support?

Any help in this matter is appreciated. I seem to have this problem with a lot of games.
