I have been a Centurion pilot since I started playing mostly. I would test out some of the trial mechs if they were not bad here and there (In all cataogories) and bought an Assault Mech (733c Highlander) My issue is since I mostly play in Pug games the Highlander is to slow for me (And that is with a maxed engine) and unmaneuverable (And I have jump jets). I have only gotten to test out some Heavies, and I plan to test out more as time goes on before I buy but I am trying to find the right heavy mech for me.

I have the Centurian YLW, A and AL, and have been using the YLW in This variant for a while now and I like the play style but I want something a little heavier...and that I can have a few more weapon combinations in.

I like to keep a speed over 70KPH, anything less than that just seems to slow. I just do not like the Dragons at all though, the Catapult is to missile boatish in almost all variants for me (Much as I enjoy the mech in the board game), so I have mostly been looking between Quickdraw, Cataphract, and Jagermechs. If I had the money I would throw down for the $60 Project Phoenix (Thunderbolt is probably my favorite mech), but yeah, that wont be happening.

I have browsed the forums, Mechspecs, and advice guides for all three and I just can not make my choice. I like the Quickdraws because the added maneuverability in being able to jump places, (And the one 'Phract that can). In the QDs I will miss the Ballistic hardpoints but win some lose some.

So I am here to discuss Heavy mechs and listen to your guys advice.

Just wait for the Thunderbolt, when you can buy it with CBills. It isn't exclusive to Project Phoenix. If you don't want to wait, get a Cataphract 3D. It can equip jump jets, can be above 80 kph and can load a variety of stuff except for missiles.

Yeah, I will probably wait and will have a chunk of C-bills by then.

Thank you.

My favorite and most successful mech is my K2, I know you are overlooking the Cats but they are viable options. My K2 runs at 82.2 with speedtweak. Plenty of ballistic and energy options available.

In closed beta I played only Centurians, loved them. When the game went to open beta I swapped to a k2 catapult and loved it. Slap a 300xl in it with 2 uac5's and 4 medium lasers and you are guaranteed to have fun. I play mostly heavies now but also have to be going at least 70kph as well.

The K2 is probably the best new to heavy friendly mech there is, you really can have fun with it with many different builds.

The moment I read "I like to keep a speed over 70KPH" I was like "this man knows the business well".

But first, I don't think Quickdraw offers anything better than a Dragon. The hardpoints are just not all that interesting. And they're ugly.

That leaves us to 'phracts and Jagers. It all depends on your playstyle. If you prefer strafing around 200-500m from the first line of fire dealing consistent damage, then it's no doubt Jagermechs. They may have gigantic side torsos, but also have high-up gun-arms that are perfect for shooting from cover...and friendly brawlers' heads. Quad-AC2, AC2/AC5 hybrid, twin-AC10, twin-AC20 and twin-Gauss, plus LRM5 boating to bombard foes. So many possibilities.

If you prefer frontline battle, then 'phracts no doubt. They can take quite some batter, and their slick torso silhouette makes them surprisingly survivable. 1X and 3D with AC20-centered loadouts simply kicks a lot of a**es, and 4X and Ilya are able to carry an incredible amount of firepower. All perfect for punching faces.

Plus, both chassis have a BRILLIANT Hero 'Mech.

Your choice.

In defense of the Quickdraw over the Dragon, it offers jump jets and proportionally the smallest side torsos of any heavy other than the Catapult. So it can run XL's rather safely, and going almost 100 kph before speed tweak, a single jet will get you over hills easily. In particular, the 4H can also pack a very solid SRM punch (Mine runs 2 SRM 4's an SRM 6 and 4 med lasers).

And how can anyone call it ugly and then talk about the Cataphract? The 'phract is undoubtedly a good mech. But its hideous.
