I'm not a very tech-savvy person and by sweeping the forums here looking for a possible solution to my problem makes me feel even less tech-savvy, but here goes anyway...

I feel like I'm 90% sure my problem is internet-related, as I'm hooked to a powerline adapter 5 rooms from my router and have had internet problems before. My ISP is Verizon Cable. A speed test clocked my ping at 10ms, download rate at 20mb/s.

I'll list my specs after the problem..

After downloading the patch and launching the game, there is an instant 3-second lag simply on the menu. The mouse moves smoothly, but upon clicking or simply hovering over a button the lag is present. There are also some screen-adjustment issues I'm having but I figured I'd attack those once I'm able to actually PLAY the game I've been yearning to play for so long (this is my first personally built PC and haven't played a MW game since MW3!)...Anyhow, that is basically my problem: ridiculous lag. So I launched a match to further test it out and the lag is very evident from looking around to MECH movement, everything except for the audio which is clean and smooth.

What I have tried: updating drivers, updating Windows, reinstalling, disabling antivirus, turning power options to high performance, switching processor output from 100 to 98%. Hell, I feel like I've done more than that but I guess that's it.

specs (basics):
Core i5-3570K @ 3.40GHz
Radeon HD 6450
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 SP-1 64-Bit
DX11

Like I said, I have a feeling that it's internet related, and might be as simple as "you have crappy internet, too bad for you." In which case I'd be depressed and simply hope a new non-online-only MW game comes out sometime in the near future (doubtful) -- but figure I might as well ask the more knowledgable and maybe *just maybe* there IS something I can do.

Thanks in advance!

Have you played the game previously?
Or is this your first time trying to play?

play and test it out on Testing Ground when you play. Simply access the Testing Ground from the button "LAUNCH". See if there's any lag you mentioned above. Because Testing Ground runs on your local computer, your internet quality doesn't affect the gameplay while you're in there ( correct me if I'm wrong ). If the problem still persists, try contacting support for that ;)

Tried, still laggy. I imagine it's that way because the game still has to load the map from the server, right?

If I'm wrong though, then I guess that means it's a graphical issue...maybe

I'm guessing its a GPU issue the one you have is very weak.

However just to check have you installed the required .net framework packages, they should be included in general windows updates.

It is your graphics card...It is a low end one not designed for gaming.
With your system i suggest at least upgrading to a AMD 7870/7950.

Is it definitively a GPU issue? I'd hate to spend upwards of $200 on something that wouldn't fix the problem...not to mention having to upgrade my power supply (I have a 550 right now) to accompany it

It's hard to be definitive when we are not there, but it definitely is a low end GPU, not designed for gaming, so it is the most likely of issues.
Do you have a friend you can borrow a card from to test?

Your PSU is fine and im 100% sure your GPU is holding you back.
When you spend $200+ on a GPU and get the game working super fast at max settings it will put a smile on your face and it will be worth it.

It is definitely your GPU, I used to use a Radeon HD 6850 and was only able to get decent framerates (30-50 FPS) with medium settings and motion blur turned off.

Also, since the last patch my ping (internet connection lag) has been very unstable.

Before you all say its the gpu.... Here is a simple test. Press f9 and play. If your fps is below 25 consistantly or has hard dips below 30 ish then chances are its your gpu. If your fps is above 30ish and it feels laggy its something else.

I am fully updated.

I do have a few friends who have gaming PCs, just not sure if they'd be into letting me borrow one for a test. I'll definitely look into that though before upgrading.

I've never been very 'good' at this game, but I've always been a fan and really loved playing it, so I imagine it would definitely be satisfying.

So in training grounds when I pressed F9 simply looking around registered me at about 4-5 fps and movement puts me at 8 fps sooooooo it's my GPU, eh?

any chance that it's ALSO my internet? according to friends and simply looking around doing some research, 10ms ping and 20mb/s DL speed is decent enough to play.

Internet has no effect on fps, only warping. Its your gpu. 25-30 fps is fluid movement. 4-5 is unplayable by any standards.

No offense but that video card is lower then low end. That is a card for something like a HTPC build.

As you can see its about what you can expect from that card.

Understandable, seeing as how I had originally built this PC for basic stuff, except with a 550W power supply *just in case* I decided to a do a little revamping in the future.

So now that I'm on the market for a better GPU, what would you say of my processor? would the Intel Core i5-3570K @ 3.40GHz and 8GB RAM suffice for an upgrade to, say, a GTX 660 ? and someone mentioned earlier that my power supply would still be okay, though a friend mentioned in passing that I'd need at least a 600W

to be honest that's a lot less disappointing than the problem being my internet, because that wouldn't be as easily fixable.

Well, a 500 PSU is more then enough for even a high end gpu as long as it is a single solution. What is your budget? That is a good starting point on us helping you choose a video card. Also do you play games with physx support?

I really don't play computer games at all. MWO would be my first real game, aside from CSS, on my computer build

turns out I have a 600W so that shouldn't be an issue at all

right now I'm torn between an EVGA GTX 660 Ti ($300) and an EVGA GTX 660 SC ($200). With this being my only real PC game, though I want my PC to be above-avg in handling it, budget wouldn't bother me past $300, though settling for the $200 card would be comforting

For your gaming needs i would suggest the gtx660 or the amd hd7870. Whichever you can get cheapest. Enough card to not be a bottleneck on decent settings and a normal resolution.

between the GTX 660 Ti and SC, which would you recommend? It's a whopping $100 difference, so "for my gaming needs" would you think the SC would suffice, at least for this game, without being glued to the mininum
