You asked if I'm a gamer, I grew up starting with the NES, the first game I have vivid memory's of playing was Metal Gear when I was 3.
Competitive gaming, as we know it, cropped up around 95-96 with games like "Ghasp" Mechwarrior2, and Doom, I was a part of that generation of gamers too ya know... Like I said I've been "competitively" gaming with the battletech/Mechwarrior franchise since playing in the pods back in 96'.
One could argue however that "competitive" games as we know them now, didn't start till the Unreal Tournament/Quake 3 days... of course there were games like StarCraft and the like that changed their respective genre's of gaming in the competitive scene. If we're talking "Mech Sim" competitive gaming, Mechwarrior's always been the kinda "go to" mech game.
So allow me to ask you this Soy, what is it you want out of this game? What is it that keeps drawing you to Mechwarrior:Online?
I don't think any MW was ever competitive to be honest. Nobody ever looks back at mid 90s gaming and points to that, it's Goldeneye, Quake, Unreal, StarCraft, Diablo, UO, things like that come to mind. At least, nobody I know has ever once mentioned MW as being some sort of pinnacle of skill. Ever. I've been around the block just like you, cept my travels took me way beyond the MW realm. This is really not a big game nor is the IP, which is both indicative and a shame since it has a lot going for it fluff-wise, always has and always will. I don't think it's ever been legit mainstream at a time when competitive gaming was legit, however. That's a tragedy.
What do I want out of this game? Fun, through a variety of arbitrary avenues, what else would there be... of course, I took a break, which I recommend (once again) you do as well to find your chi or zen or w/e schtick you want to come up with. But srsly, can I haz ur stuff plox?
