what happened to good old regular firing groups? Group you weapons, fire most or all when you are good on heat, stop firing more or all when you are bad on heat

Some people are bad at managing their heat and chain-fire is a way to go up in small increments they can more readily judge.

People should be link-firing and know how much heat that makes, with multiple groups if they have a lot of hot weaponry. Link-firing allows you to make better shots, spreads damage less, allows you to mitigate damage by torso twisting/dodging while your weapons recycle, and is generally a superior tactic.

There is an exception for killing a critical opponent. In that case you just want to slap a couple points of damage on their CT/whatever with minimal heat. Way too often I see chain fire as a go-to way to fire lasers which makes me facepalm, especially when they have plenty of heat and a great shot lined up (like having crept up behind an enemy's rear) but are chain-firing lasers when they have so many lasers that they don't even use them all.
