I would really like to see how matches affect my ELO ranking, but with no ability to even see what my ranking is I have no means to determine how a good or bad match affects it. This also removes the ability of the beta tester to determine if it is working properly when they have no idea what it is doing.

This sounds like a great idea. you should add a poll.

There is no in-game need to see your ELO. Knowing what your ELO score is opens the door to more problems than solutions.

Would you please explain the problems it will cause? You may have a good point, but if you don't say it I can't see it.

Just like with any game that can be min/maxed, people will figure out how to play to adjust their ELOs down in some instances to have an advantage in an important match. I forsee more suicides/bad tactics by people trying to tweak the numbers. ELO is not something that effects actual gameplay, so it does not need to be known. Bottom line: Knowing your ELO would add one more facet of the game that could affect your gameplay, and be abused by those who min/max everything.

Ditch ELO and come up with a better ranking system.

Just because LoL has become the most successful game on the planet, financially and player base wise, DOES NOT MEAN that the ELO system works.

ELO is a system designed for Tennis Singles or Doubles; your team never changes or you are your own team mate.

MWO is a game where your team has 6-8 players and is different EVERY round, unless you are an 8 man premade.

ELO is a system that should only apply to a "ranked" team when they are all playing together, never when less that full strength.

ELO punishes players and makes game play miserable both for noobs (getting murdered by trained pilots when they first start the game) and for trained pilots (who inevitably get stuck with those noobs on their teams.)

I love this game, so far, and the randomness is great, just as it was for LoL in closed Beta and the first 3-4 months after it went to open Beta. ELO changed that once the game became more "casual".

ELO is not the way to reward anyone.

*shakes old man fist about ELO*

I KNEW I was in the wrong place lol. That was also a very good point, I didn't take into account that people would find a way to make the system work for them if allowed to see the system.

I think they should, after a 100 game grace period or something, tell you your daily/weekly ELO change. This would give you legitimate feedback on how you are doing, objectively, but would not allow you to know your actual ELO unless you created a new account and were very determined to tank it for the first 100 games. Even then, you wouldn't be able to know it very well, and you'd have to track it on a daily/weekly basis.

If ELO can be abused, then it's not working, and needs to be fixed. Nothing wrong in seeing your ranking and how it fluctuates between matches.

It really can't be abused, other than to start a new account, but that's not really abuse, and that's true of any account. Whether you know your Elo or not, you can always join games and try your best to lose. I don't see how knowing your Elo could lead to abuse, since it is based on wins and losses. The only exception to this is tournaments, where you want to start with a very low Elo so you can dominate and get better scores. However, as I mentioned before, knowing your Elo doesn't really provide much of an advantage to this tactic other than the fact that you'd actually know when to stop losing games.

It does, however, potentially cause E-Peen problems, and that is more likely why they are not published.
