does this map seem brighter to you guys since patch?

why did they change it?
it doesn't look as good. people will still use thermal/night vision anyways.

Second image looks a lot better. the streetlight actuall light up the sidewalk around it like it would if it were at night without the high ambient light

They changed it two patches ago so that it was no longer pitch black. People were complaining about no light sources whatsoever, because they are scared of the dark.

You can actually play the map with no vision mode activated now. I've done it several times -- makes for a nice challenge.

I think it looks much better now.

As far as nightish... you are in a city... with lights all over and it was just ridiculously dark. It was stupid and not fun. It's much better now.

The current brightness still isnt enough to play wihtout nightvision if ur using a Screen with good black levels. For example a old CRT or a Plasma TV, the map is stil lvery dark in places.
With TFT/LED/LCD screens black levels are not as dark and u will be able to see more currently. Ofcourse the majority of people have these typeso f screens so it stands to reason that, thats what the game be balanced on so no arguments there.

I think NV is deffiantly required still, but i hate the NV and TV limited range, its not realistic or helpfull in game..its a PITA tbh..and u can always tell those players who have messed with the game cfg file or brightened their screen since they end up shooting u from places that u cant see in any vision mode, iv had this happen to myself and there is no way people can say im just blind , i have a massive 42" screen ..makes things that would seem small on a 22" screen alot easier to see.

The new night vision requires light sources to work. Otherwise you'd have no light in night vision.

I think this is a by-product of the 'baked in shadows' that was added?

no that was mostly for alpine.

i'm dissapointed they caved to people complaining about River city night.

its a night map. people expect to play it like a day map or soemthing wher eyou can see everything. its a night map lol your not supposed to see anything. now they went ahead and make it look bad. the people complaining are still not happy because you will still need to use night vision since its a *night* map.

for them to get people not to complain about visibility they'd have to turn the lighting up to dusk. and rename the map river city dusk or river city early morning lol...

thats weird if river city night is the only map you'd need to use night vision on. why are they accommodating it to other maps with fine light sources.

i hope they eventually fix this without making compromises

Yes. There is a huge difference. I haven't had any need to use the "new improved" night vision yet as a result.

It works on any map with light sources. There's nothing wrong with it. Now there's just a sky with a super distant setting sun, and a few street lights that work. Just turn on night vision, watch it take lights including your cockpit lights into account. If the map was pitch black, night vision wouldn't do anything and you'd still have black. That's how night vision works in real life.

Before they just had a flashlight no one else can see (hence the glowing buildings reflecting that flashlight) and a granular filter over the screen as well as remove scene lighting (so any other lights that existed were removed).

Now it actually amplifies the real light without a built-in flashlight on your head.
You're complaining about the fix itself, not a problem that needs to be fixed.

Map, night vision, how it used to look.

I only had a problem with River City Night because I thought the super-dark-view bug only happened in that map. (That bug where your vision suddenly dims a lot and does not brighten again if there is a lot of lasers/explosion on the screen)

yeah i just meant why did they have to make night city map like the other maps (adding light) to make night vision work. when the only map that really needs night vision is the night map. wouldn't it make more sense to make it work on the night map. isntead of making the night map a dusk map.

u know what i mean? isn't it odd that they have to add light to a *night* to make *night*vision work?

also the skybox never changed. check out the before and after pictures
