I am a new player, although my best friend has played as a Founder from day one, and I observed his many matches.

I just did my 25 cadet point trial mech matches, and bought & outfitted what I hope is a good long range sniper with a hard punch at any range.

I run hot if I alpha strike, and am saving up to get a 285 STD engine soon, I hope, since I left myself room for it!

If you smart and cagey veterans could please examine my build and let me know if there is room for improvement, I'm all ears.

My goal is to basically core anybody who allows me 2 alpha strikes in a row!

Thanks in advance!

here is your mech with the STD 285

Thanks! Am I missing a heat sink in my middle? Lord knows I need more of those!

only bigger engine can mount extra heatsinks

max up to 10+2 just using engine without the use of space

Aaaaahh....I forgot!

So bumping up that much larger in my engine will be a huge help in containing this infernal heat when I unleash holy Hell! :P

kinda but you need to use alt between 2 groups of lasers

my improved build uses endo steel for weight saving and bump up the engine speed for movement and max armour

but there is a slight drop in heat efficiency.

just be careful when up against similar stalker boats

Currently, I have #1 as Alpha, #2 as chain fire.

I'm considering doing a #3 and #4 with 3 on one, 2 on the other since I have a Razer Naga mouse and all my 1-12 keys are under my thumb.

this is my own take of the stalker

long range support with the LRM+Tag+BAP

when the enemy is closer go with the ER large

If you want to use LLs on the stalker your two best bets are these:

6 Large Laser STK-3F. Runs a little hot so it requires great fire control, but it will give you a high alpha and will work if you play as a mid-line support mech.

5 Large Laser STK-5M. Runs cooler and has more heatsinks, but lacks one of the large lasers giving it a smaller alpha. You can upsize to an STD 300 and add another heatsink if you want but you will have to strip several tons of armor.

ER Large Lasers are not at all worth it imo. They greatly increase your heat generated on an already hot mech, and merely give you a range increase that you likely won't even be using with LLs. If you want longer range with a support stalker then you should look into a PPCStalker build.

Builds like these that boat energy weapons are the most reliable builds with the current meta-game. LRMs are generally bad compared to direct fire weapons atm and if you try and get in close to brawl with SRMs you will get torn apart by the large ballistics. You can try and mix in some missiles if it's to your taste though, game isn't necesarilly about making the best builds after all... the point of games is to have fun, right?

Sadly I started with 5 regular large lasers but sold them all to finance the ER's.

It's my first ever non-trial Mech and I needed the currency...regretting that now!

Why do you think you need 5 ER's? You could drop down to 2 ER's and 3 LL's and that would take a big chunk off your heat. Sure you get an extra 225 range with the ER's naturally, but seriously ... if you want to reduce you heat, without changing weapons, that alone saves like 7.5 heat per alpha.

ER LL = 9.5 * 5 = 47.5
ER LL = 7 * 3 + 2 * 9.5 = 40

4 * 47.5 = 237.5
6 * 49 = 240

So, you can either shoot 4 times with your setup, or 6 times by switching to only 2 ER LL's. 4 Alpha's vs 6 Alpha's ... hmm ... I wonder which is better. Think of those dumb cell phone commericals with that guy sitting at the table with 4 kids asking the question ... which is better?

I just replaced all of them with regular large lasers...not sure how many alphas I can manage but will play some later tonite.

I also now have a HBK-P with 9 mediums and the DHS for at least 2 alphas, 3 in cold maps and a 260 engine.

I'm trying to decide which one I will fall in love with if I play them smartly.

Any opinions from your experiences?

STD 300
432 armor(sounds low but is off arms and legs and i run stalkers with the exact same armor values and havent experienced any issues)
23 DHS to keep you as cool as possible
I also suggest using 5 large lasers and same build because i find it hard to use lasers as sniper weapons and non-er are much cooler.
