Random pilots will randomly equal out skill wise. Or do you have a crystal ball that guarantees that the outweighed team won't get the noobs as well? Pilot skill is an irrelevant argument to matchmaker balance. The mechs don't have to even up one for one in a balanced weight system. They just have to add up to a very close weight total. IE If they get a bigger assault you get a bigger heavy to balance it out.
My point is that even in a 0 tolerance, 0 weight difference, pilot skill will result in the roflstomps that got weight matching put back in. Weight class balancing means that the enemy is in a mech within ~20 tons of you; if you're a good pilot, you're worth more even if you weigh less, and that's what Elo tries to balance.
Together, class matching and Elo should (in theory anyways) lead to a balance of weight and overall "skill", which should lead to a balanced match. Making sure that the teams weigh the same would take longer and would not ensure a better quality match.
