Hey people,

Right been playing some time now and done alot of work on centurions but got bored of them and found a love for the awesome's and running the following :-

AWS-8V

2ml, 1sl, 3 ASRM4's, AMS, 1 ERPPC
19 DHS, 494 (max armour) STD Engine 300 ( 60.7KPH)

AWS-8Q
4ml, 3ll,
22DHS, STD Engine 300 ( 60.7KPH)

Ok these run fine 8V better then 9Q (better dmg output) but at most I am getting 450-500 dmg in a good fight and people say they can hit 800!!!! And I wanna know how.

Both mechs have the first set of skills just saving the 11mill for what people say is the best awesome.

So can anyone give me any clues on what I can do with these to improve dmg per match in play style or build I am mainly using the 8Q as the 8V already has 23k exp ready to go on the elite skills.

So any advice would be great.

Thanks fellow mechers!!!!!

You might want to take this thread over to the battlemech section of the forums, always people that want to help tweak your mech there!

In any case, you might do a little more damage with 4LLAS and 3 MLAS on the 8Q. The extra range always helps and with laser state rewind LLAS have become amazingly potent killers with a steady hand. Two in the arm, two in the chest, with mediums backing you up in the chest and head work well.

When you get the 9M, consider boating 3xPPCs with a huge engine, preferably XL375+. One of my favourite mechs.

But most importantly, don't worry too much about posting huge damage numbers. Abstractly high damage numbers in the vien of 900+ comes from either a rare case of a pubstar player utterly dominating an incompetent enemy while they deal with his equally incompetent team mates (you can't post insane damage if the rest of your team is actually doing their job and killing stuff). Or from an expert player taking apart mechs a piece at a time with sadistic detail and accuracy, wringing out as many points of damage from each arm, leg, and side torso they can before killing a mech. This is actually not a great way to play in most cases, you are usually better off killing the enemy as quickly as possible.

Range of effective damage is crazy when you think about it. A mech can be cockpitted and killed for as just a little more than 30 damage. But you can also pick the wings off a light mech and take around 70 points out of the arms, 70 out of the sides, 90+ from the legs, ect.

As a general rule, as long as you are doing 300+ and getting assists and a few kills, you're doing fine.

I have an 8T I use with 4 Large Lasers (all in the arms) backed up with two streaks and a medium pulse. Standard 300 engine.

As for your current builds...the key trick for Awesomes is to stick with other heavy mechs. Whenever you are shot at, always turn to the side whenever your weapons are recharging - use your big arms and shallow side profile to soak up damage and increase your longevity.

Avoid the open at all costs - the Awesome has a humongous front profile that is fodder for the current alphasnipers.

chasing someone else's scores will often just get you frustrated. yes, some people do end up with huge scores, but most good players probably average in the 400-600 range per game. The reason? There are many, but one is simply a matter of aim. If you are engaging the enemy, your goal is to kill them off as quickly as possible. If you have good aim, coring a mech doesn't actually do that much damage, per se, when you're looking at your score. If you destroy something that requires, say, 50 points of damage to destroy the center torso, you're not earning that much in damage. If you spread damage all over the mech, you get tons more damage points, but you also make the fight last longer so you end up possibly getting killed before they do, or only getting to shoot at one mech instead of several. Often, high scores simply mean that player is spreading damage all over...such as in lrm strikes or spraying lasers all over their target's chasis.

I don't have an Awesome but I have plenty of experience running Stalkers (3rd in competition, too) and they're both energy based assults, so here's my two cents:

The 8T has the only strong hardpoint allocation as it has 2E in both arms. This lets you run my favourite config of 2x LL in one arm and 2x ERLL in the other. The mistake most people do with energy mechs like this is that they put too many guns on them and then struggle to utilize them because of heat. You'll never successfully brawl head on with mechs that can also utilize ballistics (this is why highlanders dominate the competition) but you'll out-DPS most mechs on the battlefield as you can fire multiple alphas in succession. As an additional tip I'd recommend binding the left arm guns into left click and the right arm guns to right click, so you can more easily regulate fire and only fire the guns that can actually have a clear shot.
