I get this error when I try to install a test version. Any ideas?

If anyone else has this same issue I fixed it by finding a single leftover set of keys under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Piranha Games

I deleted this key and its subset and I was then allowed to install once again. Odd that it wasn't picked up by the MS Fixit or CCleaner but all's well that ends well.

Thank you very much for this, was going insane i updated an old patcher i had and for some reason it kept taking me to the test server, so i decided to delete everything and start again. But it kept throwing up about the file still in place.

2 days later after hunting for the left over program i find your post thank you very very much, as it's redownloading fine now.

Hey everyone,

Apologies for the inconvenience and the delay. While we work on a proper fix for this issue, deleting the Piranha Games entry from your Windows Registry is a confirmed fix for this error. This direct method seems to be a more reliable fix for some users than using software such as CCleaner.

Please use caution and care when running through these steps, making sure to only delete the Piranha Games entry of your Registry.
  • Hit Windows key + R to bring up the Run dialog
  • Type regedit
  • In the Registry Editor, expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder
  • Expand the Software folder
  • Locate the Piranha Games folder, right click, and delete
  • Reboot your machine.

It´s been quite a while since I last played MWO. I tried to reinstall it and searched the registry for the "Piranha games" folder. There was no folder with this name.
