(Current Patch: 1.2.214)
What is the best brawling weapon in the game without boating?

Please vote based on your current patch observations or personal experiences. I wrote "without boating" for the sole purpose of argument balance. Obviously any weapon that is boated will yield better results.

If you think two or three weapons work really well together, then which one would you rather keep if you had the choice? on current patch.

AC 20 on it own is a force and yea don't need to boat those for them to really hurt.

without boating.. the only weapon that allows to you to deal the highest possible damage -> AC 20.

Yeah, but if you're out of ammo halfway through the fight then it's not really all that great anymore. Sometimes the best brawling weapon is also the best long range weapon.

My new Stalker has 5 large lasers and can core most mechs in 2 Alphas if I'm accurate!

I wish I could boat AC/20 haha. One or two of those is pretty much required on brawlers these days. (sorry, mediums :))

Well you can carry two on a jagger, but then they're made out of paper and you have to be XL to even be able to carry enough ammo as well. It's just not worth it. It's like carrying brawling weapons on a non brawler.

Without boating i would say laser: most of them are a nice compromise of weight/damage/dps/dph, which make them very versatile.

With boating? Anything that let you damage the enemy. Except LBX, those from my experience are worthless.

Oh, if we're counting carrying two as boating, AC/40 is awesome on a Jagermech or K2. I agree with you that a Jagermech with an XL isn't really a front-line brawler - it's more equivalent to heavy cavalry or something where it can sit there and slug it out, but it really shines in charges. The K2 is in theory more durable, tho.

AC20 actually packs enough punch that it's the only weapon up there that is good in a brawl without boating (as long as you have a few weapons to back it up).

When boating, it's currently lasers. 5-9mlas or 3-6llas can shear armor off all day; again, it's a good idea to have a cooler weapon group you can switch to when using them though.

SRMs were once almost mandatory on a brawler, but at this point I can't recommend them. Most have a 100m effective range which is short even for brawling, spray damage at random across the mech, are ammo limited, generate a surprisingly large amount of heat, and do fairly middling damage for all these drawbacks. SSRMs are still viable, but this is because they negate the range penalty and do damage exclusively to the CT.

Brawling, PPC have reduced damage for close range fighting, ERPPC have not. Seems logical to me.

Depends on what constitutes boating. Is using the provided hardpoints boating? Why?

If you're boating, you're using all of the same weapon or the majority. There is no confusion regarding this matter.

Neither. Boating is playing a 6xSRM catapult or a 4x AC5 cataphract or a 6xLLAS stalker or a LRM80 stalker or a 4x machine gun spider.

Without boating, AC20 is my brawling weapon of choice. It is basically boating without boating, lumping all its damage into a single location.

With boating, SRMs get my vote.

We were talking of weapons without boating them.. When you boat, everything is good and about ammo, the deal is never to run out of it ;)
