This guy got the right idea,
Hug the Awesomes to prevent their PPCs from damaging you
Unless they use ERPPCs, then run away.

Be sure to hug my 8R. I like it when I don't have to work for a kill.

Think you're missing the point. It's not about hugging the other teams awesomes, it's about us awesomes hugging each other.

This has been the weekend I've tried every imaginable Awesome builds and found a few to adapt to the current metagame. When you have a mech which is famous with it's "barndoor" silhuette and lots of 6PPC Stalkers and poptarts around who love to shoot Awesomes first, it's hard to keep the mech competetive.

Anyways, I'm at #4 spot and hopefully will do better tomorrow. Another hug from a Awesome 8Q/9M pilot for my brave brave fellow pilots :P

Anyone willing to pilot a walking barn door and do well with it gets my respect. I tried it and I hated it, but good luck to you!

It has been a great weekend for Awesome-ing. It has been extremely stressful working my way through the top 10 of the group. It isn't easy in a 9M when I hazard to guess that many of those ahead of me are probably missile users. But it has been fun, none the less. And I love seeing Awesome out and in play. The best part about this week has been the fact that, while it is Assault mech overload, everyone is single dropping so the games are actually competitive. Shocker, I know!

BTW tahribator and trauglodyte, what builds are you running? I've been experimenting a bit with builds aswell but I've found it rather hard to get those 800+ DMG games that I need to get from my current score of 7221. I've managed two 800+ matches so far, but feel it's a struggle and a bit of luck to get them.

I'm running an ER PPC, 3 Lrg Lasers and I bounce back and forth between an LRM5 (luls) and an SRM6. SRMs in an arm are just weird for me cause I'm not used to it. The LRM is good in open maps and for tagging people for an assist. I think Tahr is running 3 Lrg, 3 Md and an SRM6.

Shhh . . . secrets! :o

My biggest damager 8Q has a standart 4ML and 3LL build with 22DHS. It's great when you get a balanced game going(as in not getting rolled in the second minute), just keep back behind the first line and just go for kills(not damage). 47 alpha supported by 22DHS is just devastating. You might need to work on your trigger discipline though. Use shift to focus your damage(manual arm lock).

My 9M builds are changing with my mood, but I had some success with a weird build out of 1ERPPC, 1PPC, 2ML and 3SSRM's with 385XL and 21DHS. 2 PPC's give you ranged firepower, while at close range you can keep pounding with ERPPC, 2ML and 3SSRM's. I found that when being constantly barraged by PPC and SSRM fire, enemies tend to get disoriented. It's also a great light hunter, they just run away when they see you packing SSRM's and PPC's. This is surprisingly my toughest to kill Awesome as well, speed really helps.

I also bought an 8T thinking others must have been using missiles to get high damage, but boy I was wrong. I had a game where I put 720 artemis missiles on Assaults supported by 2xLL and came out with a measly 600'ish damage. My attempts to turn it into a brawler with 2XSRM6'es also failed, it's just too slow and fragile to brawl. I might go for a 4XPPC build in arms though.

All in all, all it gets down to is luck and not the builds. Most of the games are imbalanced right now(lots of 8-0's) because of the Assault overpopulation(balance is easily tipped with an assault getting sniped). If it's imbalanced, you get a very fast game with even damage distribution(everyone 200-500 range). If it's balanced and you manage to make it to the end then you get good damage.

Hmm... haven't tried that 8Q build in ages, gonna give it a whirl and see how it does. Been running 2xERPPC and 3xLL on it for the most part (kind of like you do on your 9M).

Can definitely agree that the speedy 9M is the toughest to kill, even with the XL engine. Speed _really_ helps. Been running 4xLL and 21 DHS on it giving decent punch, good DPS, and good mobility. Problem is that though I can DPS down a PPC sniper, I've usually tanked too much damage to do much for the rest of the game.

Also tried to do some damage with my 8R, but it just is too fragile to be brawling much. Did get a ~780 DMG game with it on alpine packing 2xALRM15 and 2xASRM6, but in general it's hard to go over 600 with it.

The whole thing is luck. I average 350-450 in my 9M with 2-3 kills. My highest, so far, was 1163 yesterday but only got 1 kill. My best game was almost 900 damage with 5 kills and 3 assists. I tried running in my 8V after I crashed at launch and the disparity in speed is just god awful. I won't ever touch my other Awesomes ever again. They're great but for this format, speed is your saving grace. At least it is for me.

Yeah I guess it's down to luck. Since stats I've averaged ~400 dmg/match on the 9M and ~350 on the 8Q/8R. I haven't gone total no-life on this event and played every waking hour, think I've got about 100 or so matches total, but those big number matches feels like they mostly were down to luck. It's just random if you don't get focused..

Still think they could've done this event more interesting and less "grind for luck match" by taking the 10 best matches out of your best series of 20 matches. Then it'd at least be a bit more about consistent numbers than just lucking out for a few matches. Was actually rather fun for the first few hours, when ppl hadn't gotten that many games in. Was pretty pleased when I held the 2nd place at about 5000 points two hours after the event started.

Still, this event was better than the last two :-)
