Hug the Awesomes to prevent their PPCs from damaging you
Unless they use ERPPCs, then run away.

Shhh . . . secrets!
My biggest damager 8Q has a standart 4ML and 3LL build with 22DHS. It's great when you get a balanced game going(as in not getting rolled in the second minute), just keep back behind the first line and just go for kills(not damage). 47 alpha supported by 22DHS is just devastating. You might need to work on your trigger discipline though. Use shift to focus your damage(manual arm lock).
My 9M builds are changing with my mood, but I had some success with a weird build out of 1ERPPC, 1PPC, 2ML and 3SSRM's with 385XL and 21DHS. 2 PPC's give you ranged firepower, while at close range you can keep pounding with ERPPC, 2ML and 3SSRM's. I found that when being constantly barraged by PPC and SSRM fire, enemies tend to get disoriented. It's also a great light hunter, they just run away when they see you packing SSRM's and PPC's. This is surprisingly my toughest to kill Awesome as well, speed really helps.
I also bought an 8T thinking others must have been using missiles to get high damage, but boy I was wrong. I had a game where I put 720 artemis missiles on Assaults supported by 2xLL and came out with a measly 600'ish damage. My attempts to turn it into a brawler with 2XSRM6'es also failed, it's just too slow and fragile to brawl. I might go for a 4XPPC build in arms though.
All in all, all it gets down to is luck and not the builds. Most of the games are imbalanced right now(lots of 8-0's) because of the Assault overpopulation(balance is easily tipped with an assault getting sniped). If it's imbalanced, you get a very fast game with even damage distribution(everyone 200-500 range). If it's balanced and you manage to make it to the end then you get good damage.

Can definitely agree that the speedy 9M is the toughest to kill, even with the XL engine. Speed _really_ helps. Been running 4xLL and 21 DHS on it giving decent punch, good DPS, and good mobility. Problem is that though I can DPS down a PPC sniper, I've usually tanked too much damage to do much for the rest of the game.
Also tried to do some damage with my 8R, but it just is too fragile to be brawling much. Did get a ~780 DMG game with it on alpine packing 2xALRM15 and 2xASRM6, but in general it's hard to go over 600 with it.

Still think they could've done this event more interesting and less "grind for luck match" by taking the 10 best matches out of your best series of 20 matches. Then it'd at least be a bit more about consistent numbers than just lucking out for a few matches. Was actually rather fun for the first few hours, when ppl hadn't gotten that many games in. Was pretty pleased when I held the 2nd place at about 5000 points two hours after the event started.
Still, this event was better than the last two :-)
