Can anyone expand on the "single use" of patterns ? If I buy a single use, is it the lifetime of the Mech ? If I change the colours, but not the pattern does that cancel it out ? Need more info before I buy some MC for painting.

You can change the colours, they are separate from the pattern now. The single use pattern stays with the mech until you change it.

There are TWO types of pattern purchases
The expensive pattern purchase is permanent for all variants of that chassis. You can re-apply as many times as you want.
The cheap pattern purchase is used once. It cannot be used on another mech. There are no re-uses. If you change the pattern and want to change it BACK you have to buy it all over again. It is a single application item, just like the old camo system.

I am not stupid, I am not asking if I can change the pattern on a single use and change it back. I AM asking, if you can change the colour on that pattern, multiple times if I please to do so, without having to rebuy the pattern itself

As long as you have the colours, you can change it.

It (the 75 MC 'single use' pattern) is permanent insofar as unless you specifically change the pattern of the mech, you will have the pattern forever (within reason). If you switch to another pattern, and then want to switch back to the original, you will have to pony up another 75 MC.
You're free to change the colours within the pattern at any time, at only the cost of the colour, should you choose a colour that you do not already own.

it means unless you mean to switch your skin out 10 times. theres no reason to every buy permanent unlock.

or, several times for each variant of the Chassis, as the expensive one does indeed unlock it for them all (save founders and heros, of course). So, if you own 3 centurions, and change in and out of the camo specs 3 times each, etc.
tough call, really.

I believe the system we have in MWO is even better than in PS2 - there you even loose your single use camo if you just preview other patterns (possibly a bug though).
