I'd like to see a game mode that does not allow any mech customization. Stock mechs, no cheese, just fight in what you are given, grunt infantry style.

8 months of begging for this and counting.

There was a time, in closed beta, when mechs ran out of ammo, and where much more stock than they are now. Then, we got DHS, and things started getting worse.

Every time stock mechs are mentioned, I am reminded of the Kong stock battles of lore (I forget who the other team/clan was), where innocence was lost and truly epic battles of fail commenced.

Whether it be overheating or lack of ammo, stock matches are a riot... actually that's why most newbies /ragequit after playing in the trial mechs. That is stock folks.

Trial mechs are useless against the current custom field. When I buy a new mech, I have to spend another 3 million to make it competitive.

I'm not a lore buff but I highly doubt every pilot has that kind of money and equipment lying around to upgrade their machine on a whim. Pilot what you are given by your faction command and make the best of it.

I'd play a stock mode too, but I when I peer into my crystal ball I see people complaining about the stock cheese... 'dude, HBK-4SP doesn't blow itself up the 2nd time you alpha... it's cheese', and things like that. Honestly the stock mech league would likely only take 3 days to devolve into people running only the most viable stock mechs, which reduces selection down to like 5 or something, and I'm being quite generous.

Then next would come cries for a 'no hero' stock mech league, then the 'no pilot efficiencies' stock league, and so on... What I think might work better than a downward spiral of NASCAR mech fighting, is the one-design/spec-series type competition model, like sailing, cars, aircraft, etc use when people want to truly measure skill vs pure skill in the face of enormous gaps in performance of hardware potential. There can be a one-design of every mech type, which would be so much funs for 2v2, then one design cookie cutter teams as well.
Summarizing, I think there is too much disparity between stock mechs for a stock league to be viable for more than ~3 days, but within the spirit of this idea there is true potential. One-design mechs if designed well, have the potential to satisfy a lot of short and long term goals of a lot of the community. The 'Design a Heavy' thing was a wonderful endeavor, and has the potential to dovetail with a one-design class quite nicely.

as much as i wouldn't mind a stock mech mode, i don't think it would work. not because of stock armor, heat or weapons but because of the stock engines. now for mediums heavy's and assaults their stock engine sizes are bearable, once you look at the lights stock engines i see a problem, they are too slow to compensate for how easy it is to hit mechs in this game 100-120 kph lights with usually half their leg armor are easy kills in my book :\

I should have mentioned no pilot efficiencies either and no hero mechs in the 'stock only' game mode.

Would it really devolve? If players don't like the stock only option, don't play it. Plus, people play what they prefer, I don't think everyone will play the same 5 mechs. I would still play mediums even if stock assaults score better.

This sort of. Lights can be hard to hit regardless and I see a lot of poor shooters in this game. Other than commando's, I think lights would be still be viable with a good pilot.

I like the idea as something of a quality of life type add-on. Should be fairly easy to implement too.

Many people here know the chassis they like and would know to baby them as far as heat management and ammo. Straight stock, no hero, champ or founders, you cannot change anything. It could be a nice diversion from the total hardcore death-fests we have now. haha

People would play differently I think. And it levels the playing field for newbies. Adds a bit of realism and reduces the need to totally upgrade your mechs. Matches would probably last a bit longer since no one has that one shot ability save for a few stock builds but that makes them vulnerable to something else like heat or lack of armor.

no it wouldn't because there would be rules to prevent this from happening.
