Nvidia Geforce GTX 780, GTX 770 pixellized

Written by Slobodan Simic

Same Titan cooler on both

We already reported some tidbits about the upcoming Nvidia Geforce GTX 780, GTX 770 and the GTX 760 Ti graphics cards yesterday and it appears that we were on the right track as we can now enjoy some pictures of the GTX 780 and the GTX 770, both sharing the same cooler seen previously on the GTX Titan graphics card.

Pictures came from a user over at Chiphell.com forums and shows both the GTX 780 and the GTX 770. Actually, there is not much to see from those picture other than both cards will use the same Titan cooler. The choice actually does not come as a surprise considering how much time Nvidia spent in designing the Titan cooler and how well it does its job.

In case you missed those earlier reports, the GTX 780 will be based on the GK110 chip while the GTX 770 is based on GK104 425 chip, same one seen on the GTX 680.

You can check out the original pictures here. (via Wccftech.com)

Report: Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Will Cost More Than $500

It appears that Nvidia's upcoming GTX 780 will cost a lot more than the $499 that we came across earlier.

Not long ago, we learned that Nvidia was preparing to launch its GeForce GTX 700 Series desktop dedicated graphics cards later this month. We understood back then that the price for the GTX 780 would be about $500. Sadly, a new report indicates that this is not true; not only will it be more expensive, it will be a lot more expensive.

According to SweClockers the GTX 780, since it is still likely to be based on the GK110 silicon, we should not be surprised if the card is priced (almost) at the same level as the GTX Titan. ;) What Nvidia ends up calling the graphics card, or what Nvidia might end up doing with the original GTX Titan remains a mystery.

Geforce Gtx 780, 770 Coming In May

GK110 and GK104

Nvidia is about to launch desktop Geforce GTX 700 series cards and this time the launch starts from the top down. The GTX 780 is set to replace the GTX 680 and the new card is based on the GK110 chip that we all know from Titan cards.

The chip is actually slower than Titan and is internally called Titan LE, which means that GTX 780 should end up slower than Titan cards. Our sources claim that the card should end up about 30 present faster than the GTX 680 and the launch date is expected by the end of May. This means the card comes very close to Computex, the biggest computer trade show in Asia that kicks off on June 4th.

The runner up is continuing the naming tradition and is simply named Geforce GTX 770. It is based on a new GK104 – 425 improved 28nm core. The current GTX 680 has the GK104-400-A2 core, and the 425 implies some slight optimisation and changes.
The GTX 770 stays loyal to the Kepler architecture and just like with the GTX 680, we can expect one cluster less compared to GTX 670. Performance wise the card should be between 20 and 25 percept faster than the GTX 670. The launch is expected in mid May.

The real next generation has now been shifted to Geforce GTX 800 series, in case Nvidia continues the same naming tradition and it is going to be based on Maxwell. This new GPU promises a huge leap forward with capability of more than twice the Giga Flops per watt than Kepler. Maxwell has been pushed to 2014, but we don’t know the exact date.

I'm sure they will, most likely through competative pricing on the 7990.

The news is all over the web now. Tomshardware has also reported on it. Though ofc it is still only rumor.

I personal hope its true, iv been waiting on a worthy upgrade from my 560ti, thought it would be the GTX Titan, but the rediculous price tag screwed that idea up, i could afford one, but i hate being ripped off. Theres having enough money , then theres having more money than sense.
The 780 looks and sounds like a more suitable card for me price wise, unless the Titan drops down some.

The may release date would also be good as Intel's new Haswell CPU's come out in June, will be perfect for those building a new rig, like i am for my old man. (4770k + 760ti)

Their was a time long ago when if you wanted a great video card it would be around 800.00 U.S. Video cards are not expensive at all compared to what they used. If It works and handles all your games then do not go out and spend money on something that you might really need like food. Another option is wait till the next level card comes out then get the 700 series cheap.

I would buy a GTX Titan for £700. (currently £820)
I would buy a 780 for £450-£575. (initial estimates ~£500)

If ether is more than that , i wont be getting ether ..simple as really lol. Nvidia can keep churning out GPU's for aslong as they want, i wont upgrade till i find one wiht the performance i want, at the price im willing to pay. ^_^

I miss the days when you didn't have to buy a new graphics card every year...

Why would you? Got a GTX 570 for 2 years now, and likely will last a third. If it still performs why change?

People measure performance differently person to person.

I for example cant stand FPS below 30, I also have to run max settings most the time with atleast 4x AA, preferably 8x AA, becouse i use a 42" 1080 Plasma screen. The large screen makes jagged edges (aliasing) intolerable.
In competative games such as many FPS's, Racing, and Action/fighting games, i accept nothing les than a constant 60 FPS with 0 dips.
In less competative games like MWO where twitch bassed controls are dampend by the slower response of the mechs, and non competative games like MMORPG's I am ok with anything within 30-60 FPS.

If u have a Mid end gaming GPU (like a 560ti, or a AMD 7850) then keeping that performance at present is starting to get difficult. It is likely that if u measure performance as i do, that a mid end gaming GPU will only last a maximum of 2 years. And if u use a entry level gaming GPU like a 550ti or a 7770, then u will likely only have it last a year, and it may not even acheive the high settings along with the high FPS to start with.

So yea, it depends on the person. I jknow peopel who are perfeclty fine playing in the 20-30 FPS range, but i also no others like myself who want 60+ all the time.

I have no idea what any of this means but thankfully Im too poor to be tempted to afford these sort of luxuries.

S!

The 780GTX looks interesting. Will wait for reviews and see how it fares against the 7970HD GE I have, then decide if the invested money is worth the performance increase.

Ill likely still get the 780 even if the price is higher than expected.
The only way i wont get it is if the card below it in performance is a MUCH MUCH better value for money (and within acceptable performance level to the 780), or the GTX Titan comes down to around £700. But tbh the 780 is GK110 which should mean its leaps ahead of anything below it, and the Titan is unlikely to drop in price by £100.

I really don't like the cooling concept of this card but some brand sure will design something better. I remember that most cards that die because of to much heat and also where really loud are cards with that type of fan/placement and case.
