That's okay, they can introduce the 'Paradropped Wheelchair' consumable for when you're paralysed.

MASC will just be one more QQ item, on the ever growing list of QQ items. Maybe it will just be OP early on.

Something that will be implemented in 20 years when everyone has finally got bored and gone and bought a real big stompy robot from the local vehicle dealer.

I can't see a 3 sec run burst ever being worth a possible crippled Mech. The most likely choice would be to grant a short burst of speed, then, if a failure occurs, your base top speed (max. engine rating) will be permanently reduced by 50% with a legging after reducing it another 50%.

Why do we even bother? :)

That is why I would rather see it, 3 seconds with no chance of failure, if you do not turn it off after 3 the chance of failure gets progressively higher.

This timer resets if you leave MASC off for 10 seconds.

3 seconds probably would be to short.

Rolling dice doesn't belong in a real-time game. I think you know that though.

Here is the easy solution to MASC:

Produces heat. Keep using it in the critical zone and it can break. Simple.

A faceplanting 'Mech. Glorious.

Dude. MASC freezes when it fails! Total leg paralysis! You have no idea how many times I have froze a Mech with MASC at the first dice roll! :)

the mech doesn't freeze up, you just take critical hits to leg actuators

Unless they changed it in Total Warfare...

Quote

If ever the target number isn't reached on a roll, the 'Mech is immobilized.

UPDATE:
Total Warfare does indeed say MASC delivers a Crit to each leg per failure. I do stand corrected!
