Okay lets look at this medium mech madness event.

30% off the MC cost of mechs. nothing else.

The free to play model works because you get millions of people playing and a small percentage of those buy stuff.

therefore the income is still high enough to 'keep the lights on' because there are sooo many people hooked on the game.

There are soooo few events that are designed to increase player population.

Maybe that was true for the first few F2P games. As it is now, with Triple A F2P games being developed by many big players in the business, who want their share of the cake, it was never easier for the customer to just move on to the next F2P game.
Therefore it is even harder for the companies to keep their players in the game. There are NOT millions of customers to every F2P game (LoL and WoT being exceptions) with a small percentage of players actually paying real money. Many F2P games dont have millions of players to make this equation work. I consider MW:O as one of them. MW:O has a small while stable core community of adults being faithful to the franchise for decades. IGP and PGI considers this in a similar way I guess while adressing them in first place. See the rather expensive rates for Hero-tonnage (75 MC/ton) or the ridiculous prices for colours and camo-patterns in comparison to other more popular F2P games as mentioned above.
I would welcome it MW:O reaching that point of critical custumer mass to decrease the rates for vanity items and other things or speeding up development for new content. This will maybe happen in a few years... Bringing back the glory from the old days Mechwarrior deserves by any means.
PS: The devs are doing a great job. IGP is fair to free2players imho.
PPS: As said by Syllogy before i think all the competetive events should require the participants to be running premium time.

Not having access to the number I must concede that you could be right.

How does that invalidate my point of view though?

Why not have something to addict new players ... include a x2 experience and cbill bonus for the first win of the day ... or have the 30% reduction in mc cost overflow into Cbill too

The idea behind a mc cost is to help people cut corners. That reason would still be there. but more players would try out the game.

equaling a larger number of people who would hopefully pay for mc products.

Bums on seats dear boy bums on seats!

I see your point. Player acquisition. Very important.
But I also see the devs effort in finding a balance in MC, Exp. and C-bill boosts.
New players get a 1 time first 30(?) match c-bill boost which equals ca. 17 mio. That's what I got as "compensation" when introduced and the things you mentioned have been and will be again (Exp & C-bill boost events) or will be coming soon (first match of the day bonus etc.).
