You see this weapon more and more and more, hunchbacks with em on their sholders, many atlas just waiting for the fuse to be lit and split them in half, every single highlander and cataphract has a giant arm waiting to explode all over him. Is noone else having a field day blowing these things off everyone? I see more complaints than strategy talk, yet everyone still has big ripe gauss rifles just waiting to be shot all over the place... less complaints, more gauss hunting! go!

Gauss rifles aren't THAT bad. Torso twists, some weaving here and there, firing at them when they need 4 seconds to reload their next shot before going back into cover would be the appropriate tactic against enemy mechs sporting those dangerous stuff.

It's the problem of 3 or more mechs, all with Gauss rifles, firing you with those guns at once. Ever got hugged by 2 or more mechs sporting dual Gauss - or even worse, dual Ac20s?

It's painful, and lousy as hell.

I love them too. I love peeling them off Mechs in my UAC/5'd Raven. With poptards and high alpha builds I lay the hurt on them all equally. If only I could stuff a few more tons of ammo...

As a non-poptarting gauss wielder, I find this thread offensive.

I run a CN9-A with Gaus Rifle, 3 Streak SRM2s, and 2 medium lasers. The Gauss rifle is my jack of all-weapon. I use it for long range sniping and up close brawling. It doesn't do enough damage by tiself at extreme range to be anything more than area denial and a nuissance.

Poptarting highlanders and hil humping cats are shameful. Where's the fun? Where's the skill? Where's the mechwarrior? Oh yeah, they're also insanely easy to brawl. I find most min-max snipers are absolute garbage at brawling. Their heat management if PPC users and ability to toros twist to spread damage is laughable. High alpha players make me sick while at the same time boost my KD considerably.

You have to strip my armor first. And you usually don't want to do that while I can get at you.

Really, I don't generally find it worthwhile to blow them up unless they're in a side torso.
You shoved one on your Dragon's arm? I'd rather blow up that huge CT.
Shoved one on a Highlander or Cataphract arm? There's so much armor there it's not worth punching through for a measly 20damage explosion.

Atlas with one in his torso I'll totally blow off though, mainly because I always blow the torsos off to begin with anyway.

They may be a bit powerful, but there is the big drawback of having them explode when looked at funny. Fortunately for my Phract, no one shoots for the arms. And why would they? The arms have nealy as much armour as LT/RT (or more, depending on your build), and carving out a torso will destroy the rifle anyways, if not kill them outright.

I don't think the problem, at least not entirely, is the Gauss itself; I think the game would be served well by having max armour values redirected away from arms and legs, and towards the torso, so that taking out arms or legs is worth doing, as opposed to simply piling damage on the torso. If my Torso had more armour, and my arms less, the Gauss rifles in my arms would be much more dangerous to use. As it is, they basically never explode before I die, because my arms are ridiculously armoured, while my torso is not. I comfortably use an XL with dual gauss because no one actually targets/destroys my arms.

Why take a Glass Gauss when you can have an AC20? (Unless you're headcapping)

Many mechs cannot fit an AC20, and most that can cannot do so without using a STD engine. I very much prefer Gauss to AC20; especially with only one.

I see a Gauss on a mech and think, "3 health -- ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' "

I don't trust gauss in side torsos. But I don't tend to lose the arm before I lose the side torso. So I will use them in arm mounts.

High damage, extra long range, fast projectile speed, small enough to be put in most ballistic slots (now fires instantly)--what's not to love about the Gauss?
