well theres no mechs visible in his screenshot either, and you should probably be able to see them coming down from the base at that point in the match, if they were viewable.

I just tried bumping to low settings to see if I could check out the situation just by looking, and sure enough - on the forest colony map you can see open hillsides where they should be thickly covered with trees. I took a screenshot and circled the areas, I was on the upper hill / ridge in my story above.

There is a reason competitive gamers in any game will use the lowest graphics settings possible regardless of how good a machine they have. Everything that makes a game pretty is also reducing your performance either through obscuring your vision or dropping your frames.

Ahahah I posted about this a while ago - on river city some and/or parts of structures are not rendered at a distance.
This does not help with the sniping because the structures will still block the shot but you can track movement you should not be able to see

I've noticed that too, but it was less of a concern given that you could see but not hit things. In fact, it sort of has folks waste ammo / heat trying to shoot, lol. Definitely a concern for info warfare, though, and I wish they could fix both

I run low specs (my PC seems to have performance problems with this game I dont get with more power hungry titles) and it will draw mechs at any distance but will only draw trees etc up close.

It also doesn't draw the tops of ridges properly until you are quite close so you can be dropping shots onto a target (or so you think) but when you close you realise you were hitting the top of the ridge that has just changed shape to mess with you.

Vexing.

the trees are way too tall IMO. look at how small the traffic lights in river city are, then check out the trees in caustic or the other maps. the trees are 5-10x the height of the traffic lights - unless all the trees are thousand year old redwoods they are hugely disproportionate to mech height.

Bumping this thread because it needs notice. It is not just trees. It affects buildings also.

The screenshot was taken in the training grounds on low settings, but I have noticed this in-game as well. On River City, night or day, either spawn side, I can see the entire team on their spawn and see which direction they are headed too. I have a Radeon HD6870.

Edit: I have not messed around with any user.cfg or other custom settings other than the generic one accessed through the game (controls, audio, etc.)

that should be out, and is consider a abuse of game file tampering:D

yes. unfortunately it is obviously one of those things that hits low end PC's very hard. thus, the only way to "fix" it is by making mechs invisible around 5-600 meters, which obviously causes many other problems like invisible mechs across clear/open terrain.

I'd love there to be a distinction between cover and concealment. Meaning trees won't stop incoming fire but will make you lose LOS.

well im somewhat glad to see draw distance doesn't affect the mechs themselves, because that would be a huge disadvantage to low spec players.

It did for a very very long time. I don't know if it still does, I fixed it by buying better computer parts.

Maybe you haven't noticed, but when you get hit by weapon's fire, your armor glows for a short period. That makes you visible, even behind trees.
