Protect a transport could be a game where there is a train, convoy or hovership of some sort that has to get from one side of a map to the other.
One team has to protect the convoy while the other have to destroy it.
If the convoy dies then the defenders lose.
It might be better for the attackers to kill the mechs fist as if they just start shooting at the convoy they may get taken out in the process. Or if it’s a late attack maybe just going all out for the convoy regardless of the loss.

And so the enemy team LRMs and Poptarts the large slow moving vehicle down. Also people generally hate escort missions. the effort is appreciated though. I too want new game modes, but let's try and avoid limiting one teams fun.

Yeah, a "defend this thing that has limited hitpoints" mode would be terrible in a PVP setting.
All you are going to end up with are long range builds killing the target before you even have a chance to get close to the enemy.
PVE? Yes because the NPCs can be set with limits, but PVP is just asking for trolling.

Awe dude I hate this scenario.
only cause I'm to impatient for it! That isn't a complaint about the mode, but a point of weakness in my play.

A variation of this could be to use the method War Thunder uses. In WT, you pilot a WWII fighter/bomber and are tasked with destroying the enemies ground forces whilst protecting your own. The maps are quite large, the terrain quite varied, and there are alot of ground units to shoot at.
Why not try something like this in MWO? A very large map with 2 traditional armies (tanks, vee's, infantry) moving toward one another and shooting it out when they get in range. Throw in the players as the mechwarriors and task them with winning the battle, one way or another. Either destroy all the enemies mechs or all their groudn forces.
Also having a cap point or three available for the ground forces to attack, in addition to mechs being able to cap the points.
I'm not talking about anything extravagent in the AI either, just a bunch of units that move down a road to their target.
The maps would have to be large. Like, MW:LL large.
Just an idea.

This would be good mode for the meta game.
- Units would need a decent amount of hit points, so a single shot can't take them out.
- needs to be enough units to protect or a single (few) very strong unit(s)
- The units would need to start near the defending side/base/starting point
- Maybe even the path is somewhat protected - favored for defending unit
- Or path is only half way, but slow, as protecting something is hard.
- Could be that if you are within circle/radius of unit damage is taken by surrounding mechs otherwise I think it would just be too easy to target unit to kill.
But I love these types of missions, use to run them in Ultima Online (load some pack mules and go to city and announce our path, then Reds would come out of the wood work... - lots of fun).

Maybe not an escort mission per se but what if you had to protect an overlord while trucks load up all this stuff we've been extracting in conquest? Short escort and then a hold the line scenario. Win conditions for team 1 would be:destruction of team 2, all (whatever said substance is), loaded. Points could be awarded for how much is loaded as well if the enemy team is killed or team 1 loses. Team 2 win conditions: destroy team 1 or their dropship, or destroy all convoy trucks when they are headed to the dropship. Points would be awarded to team 2 for destroying trucks should they be defeated or if the kill all of team 1.
