CTZ: Capture The Zone

MWO's Version of KOTH (King of the hill)?

Consisting of bases only as spawning points, not capturing points, there would be a zone in the middle of the map with an estimated 135m(Could be increased to 200m or more) radius where mechs would concentrate and battle it out for the most time held in the zone, resulting in a team win, or an individual win in Death Match mode (Optional, comes with the gametype).

What are your thoughts?

Mine are: Simple, Elegant, Fun.

It doesn't limit anyone specifically and the radius could be increased to allow scouts and more ranged conflict.

Read below for further brainstorming...

Yeah that sounds good but I think we'll need the limited respawn mode that was once known as dropship mode to prevent the game from becoming pure TDM. Also I think a good variant would be a mode were once a team captures the center point they then must try to capture the enemy base before a short timer runs out. If they capture the base they win the match but if they fail the round ends in a stalemate and another round is played. In this second round the first team to capture the center wins the match.

An objective? Perhaps incorporate Dropship mode into this zone mode. Where: both teams start at uncappable bases and proceed to a central zone (220m-245m or so) to gain control of; Within the zone is the dropship platform and whoever caps the zone first (by either being the only ones in the zone or destroying all enemies within the zone within a designated 'reinforcements ETA span' ~ something like 10 minutes - 'T-minus 10') receives the victory (or some other condition, teammates could spawn in at this point or some other innovation).
Perhaps the dropship must land and be protected for 3-5 more minutes for whichever team who capped to win.

Would certainly be an interesting game-mode.

Respawning might not be a great idea unless it meant using the other mechs in the mech bay or allowing others on your team or faction to join the battle. Respawning takes alot away from a match.

The use of drop ships in any way is a great idea. Also being able to watch the battle play out even after defeat is a great part of the game as is. Was making fun of the other team about how funny it was that they were all packed into the cockpit of their remaining light mech watching the end of the battle

May be planned in the future for all we know. On most maps the center is actually a non-optimal to try to take and hold as the terrain puts the current defender at a disadvantage. Any 'Mech in or entering those areas is woefully exposed or in the case of Caustic Valley almost always severely handicapped. If Artillery and Air Strikes ever get a buff, KotH battles may likely have a near constant rain of consumable based fire support any time the "hill" is occupied.
