Hey guys, so I'm trying to build a new merc lance and I am having some troubles picking between a few mechs and was wondering if you guys could give me some help. (please keep in mind I'm very new to table top)

Medium: either a Wolverine WVR-8K or a Bushwacker BSW-S2
Heavy: Orion ON1-K and either a Marauder MAD-5R or Marauder MAD-5L
Assault: Battlemaster BLR-S4

I'm mainly looking for feedback on the mechs in my medium and heavy class but really I am willing to take any and all advice since I have been having a hard time trying to pick out an assault mech that I am confident in, also as a side not I'd like to stick to stock mechs and not really do any custom builds, atleast until I get more familiar with that game.

Thank you all in advance!

Ok i try with explanations:

First split the lance into 2 demi lances
Look at weapons and find an optimal ensemble (of heavy point weapons and some weapons that spread damage)

Here my take:
The Bushwacker S2...with its reliable LBX it could fire both needed fire pattern (solid damage and spread damage)
The SRM4 could fire NARC capable SRM good to support the allready choosen Orion
In the same demi Lance - take the Marauder 5L...you have to control the heat...but with its stealth armor it is a really really good sniper...keep distance...but formost it has same speed to keep up with the Bushwacker....
so the first demi lance.
Second demi lance is Orion and Battlemaster...that have some serious firepower.

Fire hole breacher (Slug and Gauss first) when you have found a hole move in with Cluster rounds or SRM.

On the other hand the Wolverine and the other Marauder would increase the fire power...and the rotary is a sweet weapon in betweeen...spreading damage as well as concentrating damage.
The Streak SRM is a solid weapon...even with NARC the both SRM 4 will hardly hit with more missiles as the single SSRM 6 will hit.

You have allready chossen some really good designs.

I like the battle master but it is a tad undergunned for an assault, have you considered a marauder II? it would kill 2 birds with one stone for you i think.

Have'nt tried a bushwacker but i do like my wolverine nice fast medium with respectable firepower.

yeah that's pretty similar to what I was planning to do, have the orion and battlemaster running up into peoples faces while leaving the marauder in the back to snipe and then I was going to leave the bushwacker somewhere in the middle so he would be able to move in to assist whatever unit needed help, whether it was my assault group or my marauder. With the wolverine I would probably do the same thing but I'm not totally sure yet

I haven't looked into the marauder 2 actually but I will definitely do that now, thanks! thats a mech I didn't even consider.

edit: I just took a look at the marauder 2 but I couldn't really find a design I liked for the role I am intending to use my assault for, and that is a more up close and personal unit but not something like the atlas-D to where it essentially can ONLY fight in close and is slow as molasses

would a banshee BNC-4S be a good choice to go with these mechs?

If you want a mean assault, check out a Nightstar or Gunslinger.

So you have a really hard but slow hitter...that can take some punches.

I highly recommend to take Wolverine AND Bushwacker now....you really have to mix slow mechs with mobile mechs. Give you more oportunity.
Keep the Orion for all range support.

One of my simplest and most effective lance was 2 Hauptmann B and 2 Uziel (another time and more simple)
The Hauptmann hat the punch...at short as well as on long range and the Uziel keept flankers away...

On of the most serious problems as in MWO...when you Assault find his self in heavy terrain...a mobile enemy unit will be able to fight him at choice

Hmm, I didn't think of that. I do definitely plan on getting all of those mechs listed above plus a light (maybe a locust?) eventually, but since the mechs are kind of expensive I'm trying to just focus on getting a solid lance built then add on mechs as I can get them so I can adapt to whatever situation I may find myself in
