Joseph Mallan is just an old, angry person that wants rolling dice in the game for "nostalgia."

So yes Joseph, it is skill-based the way they did it in MW:LL. Mech Warrior is real-time, not a board game with random chances. I suggest you at least download and test the game before you jump to conclusions.

I assume now you didn't play MWLL and did never experience yourself how it worked. (not attack here)

Yes, it was skill based. But better translate 'skill' into 'experience' in this case. The pilot had the control about how much risk he accepts for causing a jam. You could go the save route all day long or try to max out your dps. But the latter included the risk of jamming. And in the end it was about the players experience (aka skill), how far he can push the weapon.

Sidenote #1:
Here is aboslutely no reason to rage.

Sidenote #2:
Test something yourself first hand before you judge it.

If I am using a smiley(even a mean face) I am not raging. I am providing my opinion and experience. Though I have not played MWLL I do have enough time firing weapons to know sometimes sheet happens. Sure its a game but the mechanics need to be "believable".

Once more for the record. If I actually get mad. I WILL be suspended for violating multiple rules of conduct! ;)

An overheat bar is both believable and controllable. Its used in many games for a reason. Random jamming in games is one of those things best left for full sims. Which this really isn't.

But not knowing when/if the gun will jam is also "believable". Again from experience actually shooting various assault weapons. The SAW was notorious for Jamming. It's why I was happily a Grenadier instead of the SAW man. Sure there is a line between real and fiction but the closer the blur is the better in my cataract eyes.

But again: I assume you agree, that a rookie firing a M249 for the very first time has more issues than a hardened veteran. Or do both face the same amount of issues with the SAW after firing 3-4 belts in rapid succession?

Both do. I never knew a SAW man who didn't complain! Also if you fired that much ammo your NCOs weren't on top their game! I got itched out for firing half a belt of rounds! Didn't want me warping a barrel in training! ;)
