I can start the first part just fine, but if I try and launch a match:
Spoiler
and the worst part is, it still considers the mech as in-game when it crashes, so I know it's a engine crash and not an error in the launcher (it also said Engine error)

system info:

Greetings,

It appears that you may be trying to run the Public test version of this game. The default directory is not correct, it should lead to "C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online". The game version that installs to the program files is only the test server version.

If you have inadvertently placed both in the same directory then your game is now corrupted, and you will need to re-download the original version found here.

After the download, run the installer, follow the instructions and let it install to the default directory.

Hope that helps,
Later,

problem, it wants to install to program files as the default directory, and it's a newly downloaded file

Greetings,

Follow this link on how and what to do next after the install.
http://mwomercs.com/...tallation-guide

Yes, I see the new installation path has been changed to conform with normal windows programs for install and uninstall directories. You will need to uninstall any previous versions you have now, this will remove any corrupted or trace elements and allow for a clean install.

The new installer will complete its install, then you will need to patch up to the latest version (see the images from the link), don't try to play any version till it is fully patched. When all the patch's are complete and the DX application has been installed and updated your game should work.

There is also a repair tool available that may be able to correct a broken game, it checks all your files and downloads any repairs for the program. Find it here with a "what this program does":

Try these fix's,
