Hey everyone, I happen to be a fan of giant mechs and as such I would really like principles from other games geared at being an eSport applied to MechWarriorOnline so that our genre of gaming becomes much more well known amongst the gaming communities and the game could be something really ground breaking as well as trend setting in terms of what other developers could build upon when pushing stories involving giant mechs.

I think that the Extra Creditz guys have some valid points in this video and I hope that the future for this game looks bright in the competitive world and that I see this game included in line ups for tourny play across the world.

+1 Completely agree. I Currently play Starcraft ladder casually but watch more pro gaming than i actually play. Likewise I find its easier to get friends into watching GSL/MLG than playing SC2. Mechwarrior has the potential to be a great esport but for me at least along with being a challenging game the critical element is to have an enjoyable spectator mode so people actually want to watch the pro games .

That said any features like this take time and money and its obviously more important that mechonline is an enjoyable engaging game for the average player than for pro gamers and spectators. I Think the EC guys have some really good points in regards to turning a game into a successful esport but I think its more important to get the core game right and then if there is any dev time left over to worry about how the game could work as an esport.

Looking forward to mech online. Back in the day got into computer games with mech 2/mercs, duke nukem and blizzard games. Really hoping that mech online turns out to be more like what SC2 is to starcraft than what duke forever is to duke nukem.

With all due respect, I think "professional" gaming is just about the most silly thing ever invented. I don't like pro football either, I watch college ball.

I think that the time for concerning whether or not a game could work as an eSport is between pre-Production and sometime in the design phase because one of the main features is that eSport games need to be broadly viewable by people who both play the game and who've never heard of or got into the cockpit of a Battlemech. If MechWarrior becomes something heavily realism oriented then I fear that the amount of detail involved might be offputting to other people.

I guess that's my main concern. If weapon grouping like old MechWarrior games becomes something of the centered gameplay, I could see how that could turn some people away. Really I just see too much potential for genre groundbreaking eSports material here and I'm airing little concerns.
