In a new forum setup without any real restrictions on posts or posting (outside of things illegal) to discuss MWO, PGI, and players of this game in general? If anyone is familiar with the old WORA, SNARK, or SWORA sites from MUSH fandom, this is along the lines I'm thinking.

You mean a top level

forum

for generally discussing

MWO?

My brain cannot fathom

such a thing.

I have a feeling

it would be

should ever a place

like that exist

it would be

a terrible place.

filled with the wailing of grognards

the gnashing of troll teeth

the screaming of tin-foil hatted morons.

no it is for the best that such

a place never exist.

I can't really disagree

with you

but there is no reason

that PGI needs to host

an area where they can be

bad mouthed on a scale

like they were in GD.

Discuss MWO in general sure

discuss changes hell yeah

discuss players and the company why not

but keep it civil,

I mean it's not about defending anything

it's about being human beings about it

and not rabid animals.

And if it's gonna be that nasty

unreasonably so,

)though i'm sure many will tell me

their mockery of social mores

was totally justified

because this game is that important)

but in the case of the GD of old

PGI was justified in saying

**** it there is no reason

we have to have an area where

people can just be toxic at them.

If people want to disagree with me

and have a discussion

they are welcome at my door

but if they want to shout nasty things

about and at me

they can do so from off of my property

for example.

The problem with community management, and games in general, is that once you've released it to your community, it no longer belongs solely to you. Sure, in a legal, development, and literal sense, it does belong to the developer. But, developers need to realize that once released, they have to acknowledge the fact that community investment is more important to the bottom line than the hurt feelings of developers.

Do I think all the toxicity that was in GD was good? Hell no, in fact, I rarely posted there. Do I think that people need a place to go and vent those feelings? Yes, absolutely. It will save players for PGI when, instead of them walking away in frustration, they can talk to a dozen other people who share those feelings. It's about saving the GD community. I saw SWORA, WORA, and SNARK improve the playing of multiple people, not by posting, but by lurking and watching what people were saying. WHORA will do the same thing.

Freedom of expression does not mean freedom to be offensive

Actually, I think it does. I see your point nonetheless.

This isn't that place, believe me, I've already tested the waters. Of my first two threads in here, one was locked within minutes and the second one got the title redacted within 2 or 3 hours. All things considered, it's an improvement over what we had before so I'm not really complaining, just telling you what it is and isn't.

Also, p enis.

So, what you're saying is that if I went over there and trolled,

I wouldn't be banned?

I think I'm going to put that to the test.

AMC

Don't think i don't

support your idea

I do.

I just think that

it's perfectly reasonable

to expect people to follow

your rules in your house.

If you happen to setup

a different house with different

rules

well now,

that is a house of a different color

probably.

but people will always push what is allowed and

the people running the site

have the right to do with it what they will.

My personal position is that people

have been taking this

whole thing way to seriously

and need to chill out

but to each their own.

I have no problem with the way

the forums are being handled

because i already thought GD was horrible

and we already had a play ground to

pretty much do what we wanted

with their blessing.

I was still free to disagree,

i did so when i felt the need

and i never had a thread moved to
k-town,

i did have one locked

but I was mocking GD openly

in GD so that will happen

I agree with you Agent. I just feel that if your house is there to make money by having people in it and speaking their minds, but then you don't let them speak their minds, then your house will soon be empty. I've created this forum to (don't tell anyone) support PGI, not to circumvent them. People need to *****, and a community full of people bitching is still a community with a shared bond and a reason to exist. That reason is MWO. Relationships will be forged and people will keep playing. It's the point of online communities. The GD-aclypse is just another example of how PGI is trying to learn as they grow into this market.
