Since there are some 4 ac (or moar) builds, some (in the last days many of them) are using macros (programmed mouse) to increase their rate of fire. First i was impressed by their fire rate, so i tried that build with 5 ac2´s aswell.

But i wasnt able to fire as fast as those people. That suprised me alot. I even chainfired it, then clicked on the fire key all the Time(thought its like the chainfired lazer which you can fire as often as you want once you click pretty often on the fire key.

It all didnt work.

So i asked a dude in game how hes firering so fast.

He replied he is using a mouse macro.

My question now is if its legit? should it be allowed? is it cheating?

They are increasing their rate of fire so they receive a huge advantage from dat macro.

In my point of view its clearly cheating. Feel free to argue and write down your experience with those super fast firering quad ac builds.

Macros are fine. Anyone can use them if they so desire.

If the game had the functionality to chainfire these weapons correctly, you wouldn't be complaining, and the macro wouldn't be needed.

Not cheating.

Also it would only take you a couple of minutes to set up a macro if you wanted to.

It's legal and macro's are no more of an advantage than other gaming mouse features like better sensors, more buttons on the mouse, or the ability to change your DPI on the fly. They're just one of the grab bag of features that makes a high end gaming mouse worth the catch.

As for the AC2 in particular, the root of the issue seems to have gone over your head. The AC2 fires so fast that if you try to chain fire more than 2 of them it doesn't work. You won't actually shoot any quicker. You can of course create multiple weapon groups with chain fire in them across your AC2s and press down the buttons at different times if you want, but it's a pain.

But you really need to just realize that hardware and driver level macros are FAR from the greatest advantage a proper gaming mouse + keyboard setup will deliver.

I would say your first question in that poll is severly skewed to get the answer you want us to give you. The second is that not all Macros are designed to berate you with continuous fire.

You can look at it two ways

That person went to the effort of buying and setting up a gaming mouse to macro fire.

That person is so sad and desperate to win something, they're prepared to waste money on a gaming mouse to get an advantage.

PGI have said its ok to modify your user config file, and thats the only one you can modify, anything else is an exploite, changing other files used to be ok in closed beta, now its not, and gaming mice are ok.

Do I think its good for the game

No, as those that cannot or won't buy extra bits to be better will get fed up and stop playing sooner or later, reducing PGI's income.

PGI probably allready realise this, but how exactly are they going to monitor and prove someone used a programable gaming mouse

You can use macros without a gaming mouse. Back in the day people used external programs to pull it off, or bound different DPI settings, sensitivity changes, pipes, field of view changes, and other items in a games .ini and .cfg files. The modern features in mice like DPI toggling and macros just let everyone do it through hardware and drivers instead of just those with the esoteric knowledge to do it without them.

The only thing you really need the gaming mouse for is the better sensor and extra buttons on it. The other features are just a different and vastly easier method of going around things people were doing since Quake 1.

Instead of banning macros because you don't have equipment that performs them, download autohotkey and turn any button on your keyboard or mouse into a programmable hotkey or macro.

He's firing fast because 4 ac2s actually fire pretty damn fast. There is no big exploit here. You're getting hit by 4 or more of the fastest recycle weapons in the game it's not rocket science.

What they need to to do is integrate macro creation into the game itself. We're piloting mutli-ton warmachines, and we somehow don't have the capability to set up macro'ed chainfire?

Why would they? hey already said that Marcros are acceptable. The Macro in question is not making the weapons fire faster than the game allows only faster than you or I could manually. The weapons don't actually fire faster they only switch groups faster which means they overheat faster. It's a good build made better through automation. Can still kill them so I don't care if they take an advantage I don't have. Even if I do have a Macro programmable Razor Naga! :D

The DEVs could make this obsolete my speeding up how fast chain fire takes to switch from one weapon to the next.

Agreed, I own a gaming keyboard and mouse, and that's simply (for this game) so I can coordinate them both so I never have to spread my hand from the WASD keys over to the other side of the keyboard. I have night and heat vision set on the second wheel of my mouse, and the only thing I've really macroed is to make it where when I have TAG I assign it to WG 4 and have it run constantly. The only problem with that is I have to remind myself to turn it off before I start typing in chat.

When you get down to it, what's the difference between macros and effectively using weapon groups?

I mean, is the macro doing anything you really can't do yourself? Does it increase the cycle time of weapons? or just how you use them?
