For the past week, we have been watching the Artemis countdown, hoping for an exciting announcement that would blow us away. There has been tons of speculation about what Artemis could be. People were trying to decrypt and make sense of the many scrambled images that appeared and many interesting theories were formed. It seemed that even if it was some Beta gameplay, screenshots, the announcement of some new mechs, or even some thing completely different, it would all be worth it. Then, about an hour ago, the Razer Artemis controller was announced.

A lot of people are dissappointed by the reveal. Some, however, are very happy and can't wait to get their hands on Artemis.

So, will you get the controller if the Razer concept ever gets produced?

Otherwise, I'm in a state where I can't justify the expense. It sounds really cool, though.

No.

Let's hope this Artemis is more akin to the Razer Naga, Deathadder, or Carcharias (exception on build quality) rather than the Razer Lycosa, Tiamat, Mamba, or Imperator.

The first three products I listed were largely unproblematic and were actually good products. The last four? Garbage.

Let's also hope it's not a Razer Blade or Project Fiona. Unfortunately, it looks more like those products than not. These products are basically on the ridiculous side of Razer. Bold, but also on the touch of insane.

Yes, though I probably will use a trackball as well. If the central screen was a touchscreen MFD... it would make a great flightsim setup too.

I'm unfamiliar with Razer's trackrecord. Is it really that bad?

The only way I'd get it is if I suddenly had money to burn and nothin to spend it on. I'm not a huge fan of periperals that are mostly only good for one game unless I can split the cost with others. Considerin its a pc peripheral? Not likely goin to be the case.

If they had a 'lefties' version, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'm right-handed.

Off-hand joystick for throttle and analog turning. Main-hand mouse for aiming and torso twisting.

You cannot beat this setup, it's the best of both worlds. Lefties are in the best position to exploit this - using a right-handed joystick in your left hand is ridiculous.

I always do prefer (joystick with buttons + limited keyboard input) over (keyboard-and-mouse), so the Artemis System is exactly what I would want to use... however, they'd have to price it such that I'll willingly put down my nice functional joystick and nice functional keyboard to pick-up something that's little more than a nice functional joystick with a nice functional keyboard, AND a little screen on it.

It seems like the market they're going to have to capitalize on is the "I haven't geared-up yet for MW:O, and I'm currently shopping for hardware" crowd.

No for a number of resins, I don’t have the physical room for something that large, it will be fairly expensive likely several hundred dollars and (generally speaking) Razer doesn’t have the best reputation for “quality” devices and I just don’t think it brings anything to the table that you can’t get with a programmable keyboard and a good joy stick but your mileage may vary.

this seems a good idea, but then lots of majors defaults should be avoided, like the ZERO force of saitek 52 by sample, or the plastic breaking axis of lots of joysticks especialy force joysticks

also should avoid the metal parts like on old thrustmaster that make the joystick jumping in the wrong side each time you want to do something very accurate

A fair move by PGI in my opinion. Honestly I think only the most sim fanatic base is gonna go for this however, they are also potentially the biggest spenders for the online store. Catering to them and having them dedicate more money into MWO will increase PGIs profits although not necessarily thru the sale of the controller but thru the subsequent migration of income earning player base, and dedicated hobbyist. Its a move in the right direction to secure that high paying niche. To most of us casuals and in between however, its a facepalm because nothing can beat the mouse and keyboard.

Pros:
1) Shows dedication to simulation rather then arcadey gameplay for MWO from PGI
2) Shows detail orientation, realism focus, immersion are high in priority
3) Shows that PGI is willing to gamble and won't make a safe boring game

Cons:
1) Hype dissapointment for casual gamers... buts thats it.
