Most of the discussion surrounding flamers has been focused on the extent to which they should increase the heat levels of enemy mechs.

This discussion is great, but people have brought up many good concerns as to why this could lead to frustrating gameplay.

But what if the flamer actually had decent damage? Nothing spectacular, but something at least fitting for a high-heat, one ton weapon that only has 64m range (the lowest in the game).

I for one would love to have the flamer find a place in this game that isn't annoying or gimmicky.

In TT flamers can cause either heat or damage. They don't actually do too much of either though, and do indeed heat up the firing mech more than the targeted mech.

IMO we don't need a way to shut down enemy mechs, as mechanics that remove control from the player's hands are more often frustrating than fun.

I would support increasing flamer DPS significantly to make it a viable alternative to the ML.

I think buffing the Flamer's damage output would be the preferable way to buff it. Give it the damage output of a small laser or something like that. Maybe even a Medium Laser, it still produces tons of heat (for the user).
