Pacific Rim blog

It's not BattleTech but it is humans piloting giant robots. And Guillermo del Toro is directing it. So My expectations are high.

Yeah, too close to be a coincidence.

del Toro is a big fan of Valve games, and he negotiated with Newell to have Ellen McClain do the voice for the AI.

Also, trailer has a freaking rocket punch in it. I'm there opening night. ;)

Seriously - is there a reason there is no decent Mech movie? The trailer looks like the movie is dribbling in pathos with the typical "Humans will prevail" speech, everyone pulling together and suddenly out of nowhere there are giant death robots that are steered by people walking around in silly suits. Cue big explosions and brawling with Aliens from an underwater dimension rift.

It just looks silly from a BT/MW point of view imo.

A friend of mine just gave a better description:

Looks like it it might be a decent MECH movie to me. What you want is a BATTLETECH movie since from the sound of it that is the only type of giant robot you are willing to accept.

It may not be BT but it is a step in the right direction. Maybe this one does well enough someone thinks to make a BT based movie. It would be very easy to come up with some story and it would bring in a lot of players to MWO.

I don't go see a lot of movies on the big screen but this is one I will.

Ya if it does well, Hollywood will fish around for other Mech based properties, since transformers has already been done, and they we likely find MW/BT to be one of the better candidates. Kinda surprised Transformers didn't spark a MW movie.

This will be a must see for me....grew up on Godzilla/Gamera/ultraman movies so I'm all for Giant monsters vs giant robots....I'd like there to be a good monster like Godzilla though...one that doesn't look dumb. I don't like squid/multi armed odd monsters....I like godzilla/t-rex/dragon type stuff.

This is an Americanized kaiju movie, pure and simple. That being said, it's looking good and Del Toro isn't one for putting out fail.

I get many good nostalgia vibes, and that's not just cause of GlaDOS 2.0 here.

If they actually put Aperture easter eggs into the film, people will officially fangasm right there. Why does the giant robot tech exist? Mr. Combustible Lemons himself, you say? That, right there, would be complete win.

New trailer is just too much for my brain, I think it **********.

Now I now what the hand actuators are for. PGI give us stuff to smash into other mech's faces!

All I could think of when that Jaeger smashed a ship into the kaiju's face was "They got it right, improvised clubs are a two-handed attack..."
