Big, heavy, enormous firepower...and simply useless and target drone without wingmen.

If someone wants an easy kill 4 themselfs, follow Atlas. When enemy sees it, they will come direct to it ingnoring all mechs around it. That's when wingmens get the kills and Atlas do it's best, which means it tries to survive by it's mount of armor.

Atlas + 2 wingmen = stay away.

Generally. The atlas is a big scary thing, but threat assessment is directed to it readily. It's easy to hit, and has a lot of the firepower in a fight, but you have to be careful about who's with it. It may not be worth your time to keep wailing on the punching bag in place of, say, popping that XL AC40 jager beside him.

agreed, you need to figure out is it worth taking on the ole lug because of its large amount of armor, even if you outgun an Atlas you might not live long enough to finish it off because his teammates are going to be busy focus firing on anyone willing to to attack one, gamble! you bet it is.

Depends on the pilot, some buy it thinking it'll last alot longer than other mechs so just charge in and predictably die as a result, the smart mechwarrior will let others get there first and engage then wade into the brawl delivering the death blows.

bah atlases, ive taken them in my spider d5, 2 small lasers and a medium is all you been, tbh it took a while, thank god they normally pack XL engines because they want moar dakka.

if atlases are on my team they are my best friends, nice fat targets to hide behind.

I started MWO piloting Mediums and Lights, but I've since picked up an Atlas for a change of pace. I find that in an Atlas I need to pay special attention to my surroundings, even more so than in a lighter chassis, since being in the wrong spot at the wrong time is much less forgiving than the same blunder in a fast light or medium.

When I'm on my own, I feel like my Atlas goes down incredibly quickly. Its big enough and slow enough that everyone can easily hit it and everyone loves taking down an Atlas. On the other hand, when my much-faster-than-me teammates actually decided to wait for me so that I can engage the enemy with them, my Atlas becomes an incredible force multiplier, allowing me to soak up damage that would be going towards my lighter teammates that are probably using XL engines and skimping on armor to increase their firepower.

The Atlas is a tank. It draws fire. Drawing fire is bad then there's nobody else around you to actually deliver the counter fire.

I assume you mean the spiders? Becasue any atlas pilot that mounts a n XL deserves to die an embarassing death by side torso removal, and my RS will gladly oblige him while moving at least as fast as he does.

Not to mention not even fittan an AC20 in the torso anymore.....  But yeah, we`ll put a gauss in and make ourselves even easier to blow up. Especially since almost everyone focuses your side torsos, first. :D

XL+ Atlas = unbelievably bad idea.

If they pilot an Atlas with an XL engine, they are more likely than not just part time pilots or noobs. Atlas is most effective with a Standard 325 / 350. Think torso twist plus heat sink slots in the Engine with DHS. If you aren't thinking that, you aren't piloting an Atlas all that often or you're just experimenting. Serious Atlas play always involves a Standard 325 / 350.

Ironically, I don`t consider my RS a "serious" build either, put a 360 in it just because I could, 2 ERPPC, 2 ERLL, BAP because I had no Idea what to do with teh 2 slots and 1,5 tons I still had left (was either BAP or AMS) , rest is full of heatsinks.... but it`s still easily enough to take out any other atlas` side torso when I`m not too drunk to aim :D

300 Std minimum. 325 os not required to be serious, imo. But, yeah, xl's in Atlas is just fail.

it depends on the pilot... the ones, that charge without teamwork are easy targets.. but the atlas pilots who works with their team, are dangerous.
