Trying out a new build for my JM6-S, and finding a lot of fun with it! So here is mine, the Critical Seeker.

Pros:
  • 4 Large Lasers give you substantial firepower, if you can hold it down to one point it can take out the outer armor really quickly.
  • 4 Machineguns increase your chances of getting a critical hugely.
  • Packs the largest engine in a Jagermech, hence you're the fastest Jager there is.
  • Heat management is surprisingly good.
  • Ammo explosions are fun to watch.
  • One of the few builds that actually use up all your hardpoints on a Jager.
Cons:
  • XL engine means you're easily taken out. Very easily.
  • MG has short range, which means you'll be in the thick of battle a lot. And due to 1., you'll die quickly too.
  • Limited MG ammo, but you can reduce the armor in your legs to put in another ton of ammo.

Tips:
  • Never leave the pack. Chances of you surviving alone is below nil.
  • Chances of you surviving in a pack is near nil. So don't appear important - Murphy's law number 10. Standing next to an Assault improves your survivability by roughly 3.142.
  • Cycle through the enemy and find the one with weak armor/exposed internals. Hide behind an Assault while you fire your LLs and pepper it with MG.
  • In rare cases when an enemy is brawling with one of your teammate, run behind him and fire your Large Lasers. You'll usually see the internals with just one shot (if you manage to focus your fire). MGs will do the rest.
  • Ammo are often kept in Side Torsos and Legs. That's where you aim for if the enemy packs missiles/ballistics.

Basically it packs 4 Large Lasers to melt down the outer armor, and 4 Machineguns to seek out the enemy's internals - mainly the ammo. I once managed to bring down a full health Stalker just by hitting his Side Torso and causing ammo explosions. That was satisfying.

With the MG buff coming up, you now can cause ammo explosions from up to 240m away. Joy.

I love this idea i really want to try it out but ammo explosions are pretty rare aren't they? The current metagame involves laser and ppc boats and i'm thinking that ballistics are becoming a rarity :s I would love to cause an explosion in the legs though given that many people put their gauss ammo in their feet ;)

I tried it and my doubts turned out to be true, everyone puts their ammo in their head and center torso and feet. Everyone time i had internals available for my MG's no ammo explosion happened...ever. Okay, i admit i only played the build for about 2 hours but every kill i got was with the LL. It's not your fault MG's are bad, maybe i'll try a similar build when the MG buff comes up but until then you might as well try 2x LB-x-10 and 4x ML or something like that. I'm running my JM6-S with 1x AC/20, 1xGauss, 4x SL

Gauss ammo doesn't explode. And some don't put ammo in their legs tho, for me I tend to put my LRM ammo in my Catapult's arms

Yes it is (very!) rare for ammo explosions to happen, but in between the Large Laser shots, might as well play a game of luck and spray MG at them instead of standing there waiting for reload. MG generates minimal heat and you'll struggle to go through 1 ton of ammo anyway. Sometimes you can take out their weapons as well, which is always a bonus.

I should put a disclaimer though, you'll very very rarely get kills from ammo explosion with this build, for the fact that they usually die before any ammo explosion happens or the ammo were not stored at your targeted part. I find that I usually get ammo explosions from Hunchie's and Stalker's side torsos.

I defintely try to shoot lets with my 2 AC20 jager when I feel out firepowered. I think the best counter tactic for the missile boat is putting nearly full armor on the lets. It is a pain to shoot them and if it is more tedious to take out then the torso with 40%+of the weapons.

On topic, I like your build, but you can take off all of the arm armor and put a STD in it if you ask me.I have this variance so I will probably try out this final verson tonight.

i've run two JM6-S builds. First i can't stand stock (like everybody else) but the weight for ac5s and 2s is ridiculous for the payout in damage compared to energy such as ML or LL or even a PPC. (i'm sure 6 x AC2 is alot of fun)

First build. I heard of the AC40 Jagger but wanted some energy. I went with 1 x AC 20 and 2 x PPC. Why Dale? you ask, well i wanted up close firepower (AC 20) but also range. I still get FP of 40 and also the range without requirement of ammo. And since I'm a teamplayer PUG (FOLLOW THE FRACKING ATLAS!) waitin to get teamspeak and drop with House Davion, I wanted to be able to take out ECM toting mechs so our LRM boats can rain death (tryin to save for my own DDC). Plus I can get off 3-4 PPC shots in 1 AC 20 shot with great heat tolerance. i have thought about dropping PPC for LL since aiming is easier but haven't tried it yet

2nd build which I kinda like better is 2 x LB10X (30 rds) 4 x ML 1 x AMS. +400 armor

Someone please try :

-x2 MPLS
-x2 MLS
-x2 LB-10-X-AC

I love this build, it is a real crit seeker and is devastating against lights. Like Senaiboy advised, hang back behind assault (as always) and try to flank an enemy. If a part has no armour then shotgun it, otherwise laser it. The tradeoff compared to Senaiboys' build is range, you have to stay in cover until you can engagne 'coz you don't have the speed to run in the open.

Please try it and tell me your thoughts...

I have tried the x2 LBX and I would suggest waiting until those get buffed as well, I switched to a quad ac2 build meanwhile.

It is about the only ballistic weapon that can get any kills in any reasonable amount of time.

Tested 6 MG Jagermech - the ammo explosions are rare, but internal components blows in few seconds. The criticals wont help you blow torso faster, only weapons and equipment. So waiting for patch.
By the way 2xAC10+4MG+2ML works pretty well for me.

Don't forget that even if you destroy ammo by critting it, there is only a 10% chance it causes an ammo explosion.
