So, yeah, from chatting to people and having seen some pump out some calculations by hand, I feel the need to share the knowledge and state that knowing what the acronyms BIDMAS or BODMAS means, might help others also get a competitive edge.

Incidentally which one do people prefer, 'indices' or 'order'?

It is just a little saying in maths to inform the order in which calculations are done. I noted some were failing in their own calculations.

PEMDAS - (p)arenthesis, (e)xponents, (m)ultiplication/(d)ivision, (a)ddition/(s)ubtraction: the way I learned the order of mathematical operations.

We always called it BEDMAS - Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.

Soy, this thread is about math.

1+2*3 = 7

(1+2)*3 = 9

For the explanation of why, refer to the above discussion about the "order of mathematical operations". If reading comprehension is the issue, I cannot help in words over the internet.

You apparently require large font sizing to be heard, which requires math to produce.

Math lets you dominate the forums.

I have found it very interesting to read about all the other little ways people were taught this.

Yes Soy you are right you don't need math. Just a lot of time and perhaps MC to get an edge i.e. unlocks etc. etc.

Then again, without math you would be screaming this at a tree or cave wall instead of typing it on a computer... :P

Without math I would've been leaving high school earlier in the afternoon, and saved a bit of cash in college, that's about it.

**** math. Without math tax man wouldn't poop on you! See, always 2 sides to a coin.

If you want to get reaaallly hypoethetical about it, I wouldn't exist if it weren't for my parents gettin it on, and I doubt my dad or mom spit much game about mathematical formulas or equations when they were courting.

Without math, the tax man would put you in federal prison for claiming that you paid -z#&@( in taxes.

It's amazing how many people get things like this wrong...and it isn't even hard! Makes me fear for society.
