Hi all, created this thread to see what my fellow Mechwarriors' preferred form of combat is.

I've added 1st, and 2nd preferences as 2nd preference was requested before in a similar poll. Most effective role is your opinion of what you think is the role that contributes most to a win in the current 1st May 2013 meta.

Elaborations:

Scout (Scouting, Capping)
Usually light mechs, preference for non-combat roles.

Harrasser (Fast mechs, mid-long range weapons)
Fast lights/mediums that prefer to flank with weapons like PPCs. E.g. ECM Cicada with 2 ERPPCs. Fast heavies could possibly be included here.

Striker (Fast mechs, short range weapons)
Fast mechs that typically use SRMs, AC20s, MLs. Differentiated from heavy brawlers as they use speed and confusion to attack, and cannot take much damage when focused on. E.g. fast SRM/AC20 equipped Centurions, Dragons, possibly high engines Awesomes.

Fire Support (Slow, Less Armour/XL, High Firepower)
Mechs that sacrifice engine size, go XL engine or reduce armour for firepower. Examples are LRM boats, PPC boats, AC40 Cats/Jaegers, Poptarts.

Heavy Brawler (Average speed, higher Armour, Average Firepower)
Typically Assault Mechs such as Atlas, Stalker, Highlander, though you may count certain heavy mechs, that can take a tremendous pounding and still deliver constant firepower - usually short-mid range.

I assume heavies with max size engine fall under the striker or harasser category, depending on their range.

Yes, that would usually be the case. Typically, the speed achieved is at least 80 kph and above.

One exception I can think of is the Cataphract-4X, but that's because it's max engine size is capped below what the others can carry.
