So, I'm getting this weird audio effect in my Ac20 Raven 4x (and only in my 4x) where when I'm moving through water one of the footsteps is thumpy like it's supposed to be and the other sounds like similar to one of those cork guns I played Cowboys and Indians with as a kid. On land all footsteps are appropriately thumpy. I've asked around in game and no one else seems to report this issue so I think it's a problem with my setup.

Current setup

Gigabyte 990fx-UD3
FX8320@4.0 GHZ with all 8 cores enabled
Gigabyte WF3 HD7950 OC@1100 core/1550 memory at 1175 mV
M-Audio Studiophile AV40 powered speakers (the older version)

Things I've tried:

Updating the MB drivers
Returning 7950 to stock settings
Deleting and reinstalling the game

Let me know if y'all have any other suggestions that preferably don't involve getting a sound card since I'm particularly hard of hearing in the high frequency ranges where they'd help most.

it's a less well known bug that occurs when you mount an AC20 on a light mech. It basically turns your supporting leg into a solid shaft which imparts the thunk sound.

Just kidding

Are the speakers USB? That could be the problem. My mates have odd sound issues from time to time and they all use USB sound devices (headphones, speakers) I use a SB X-Fi extreme gamer card with mini-RCA plugs and never have bad sound. Well, when I die that sound kinda sucks.

No, my speakers are plugged into the head phone jack at the moment. A card with RCA jacks would sound better of course but with my hearing as it is I just don't see the point anymore.
