Alpine is awful. Alpine at night would be grounds for game uninstallation.

Hello Planet LV 426

could have random dust clouds spring up too (if cry eng 3 can handle it)

I noticed another thread recently that was discussing the possibility of a world that would have Saturn style winds 350mph and Acid rain. I automatically thought of LV 426 like you. I agree that Tourmaline would be awesome at night especially if we could have various types of storms and Lightning. Another idea would be if that world was subject to Aurora effects similar to the ice scenario; if the Aurora was to be animated, it would illuminate different areas of the Desert and also at different intensities.

Another good reason for having a night version of Tourmaline would be to see the true effectiveness of the Flare units that we are likely to get at some point. These could add a whole new dimension to night warfare; imagine the effects on thermal imaging devices; instant blinding!

In a couple of other games I've played recently, the game produces random weather and day/night cycle. Any given match you play could be in the dead of night, the middle of a rainstorm, dense fog, the morning when the sun is coming up, the evening when its setting, or any point or combination in between. But for some reason, I think that type of quality work is out of PGI's reach.

What are those games? Name them.

Warthunder for one. Anywhere from rainstorms to night. And random cloud cover. Some days are clear others have perfect cloud cover to hide in at 3000 ft.

Yes, War Thunder is the main one I was talking about. Planetside 2 also has an actual day/night cycle, but no weather... yet. The other one I am in beta, and under an NDA.

I almost forgot, I spent the best part of two years playing Spore; it had true planetary rotation Day & Night cycles. In the later stages I would return to my original home world and take my ship down by the ancient ruins, hovering with the primitive life forms to see them through the terrors of night until the new day came up over the horizon.

The NDA covers even saying that you're in that beta, huh?

Does it cover hints :)?

Crystal clear -60deg Tourmaline night would be somewhat nice.

Some MWLL maps had very effective day/night cycle changes. Remember the purple asteroid, which went from boiling hot in the sun to freezing cold in the dark, every few minutes? It had a real impact on gameplay and strategy. Not just the management of heat on your mech, but also, pools of water which froze up to become ice or could be used to speed your cooling when melted.

Sand storm on Tourmaline would be cool. But then, every third match I have at the moment is on Tourmaline, so frankly I'd be happier to give the whole map a rest for a while.

No way. The 800m view range limit of NV (and thermal, I suppose) is limiting enough on River City Night. On Alpine or Tourmaline, it'd make mechs shrouded at range by ECM nearly undetectable by any means. That doesn't sound fun to me.

If they must add new night maps, I'll repeat this maxim I read a while back in a different post: more night maps like Frozen City Night? Yes. More night maps like River City Night? No.

It's not the map that is the problem, it is how ECM functions and that players do not want to properly scout.

ANY of the maps with a storm would be amazing Lightning flashes, squalls of rain, the drumming sound on the head of your mech. Night vision is also far less useful in a storm... awesome. Maybe the rain could also actually help dissipate heat in the mechs.

Imagine, an Awesome rolling through a torrent of rain, steam pouring off it as the rain vaporized where it struck the glowing hull of the fat metal beast... Awesome.

Wonder what would happen if PPC usage attracted lightning strikes under such conditions...? Everytime you shoot there is a chance either you or your target are struck by lightning, now that would be some interesting weather! :)

Come to think of it, there was a battletech book, in which they really provoked a ligthning strike, though I'm not sure whether it was by laser or ppc...

The dynamic weather and time cycle is what I asked in the last ask the devs. They dumbed down my question I guess. They said that frozen city already has that..

Anyway. I've seen dynamic weather and time in many games and it looks amazing. Take Minecraft for example. Very basic graphics but I've seen sunsets there that were just beautiful...

IL-2 Sturmovik. Random weather, random time.. Played in night thunderstorms, clear skies, beautiful sunsets..

F-16 allied assault. Outdated graphics but man.. Chasing the setting sun amongst the puffy clouds was amaizing ;)

The thing is, they could do so much more... I always imagined Forest colony with a heavy low fog. Imagine only the head of the Commando peaking out over the fog :P

I dont want to come out too smart, though,.. These things must be hard to program, I guess.

Nonsense. If I learned anything from theses forums, then that programming is easy and every second poster could do a better job than PGI.These people could probably code and implement randomized dynamic weather via in-game text chat.

Please no... please, please no... we don't need another Tourmaline map added into the rotation. I already drop there twice as much as any other map and it's driving me nuts. My premium time just expired and I'm thinking about taking a few months away from the game just because of the Tourmaline drop frequency.

Besides, night vision on a map that big is just going to drag out the matches and become boring since you can't see very far with it anymore. It would be like a game of marco-polo between a bunch of deaf mutes with laser cannons.

Firstly in my opinion they need to increase the range to match your visual range, albeit with the distinction of objects becoming more obscure at longer distances (depending on map and temp).. (Anyone who knows anything about wavelengths of light and visibility will get this)

Secondly, variation on this map would be cool. Think about the tactical play not being able to spot the mechs a mile off - imagine the fun scouts would have sneaking up and spotting!!

Who said that war was supossed to be easy the more difficult, the more challenging and therefore the more fun we will have. I am down for it.

I would love to see tourmaline night, and alpine melting down.

Also I love the details on the new map network canyon I wish the rest of the map could be tweak a little bit more.
