How is your Matchmaking experience?

Quote

Matchmaking

- Added ability to tune weight class and Elo matching thresholds without needing to bring the servers down.
- Adjusted player Elo down to their correct values by re-simulating match history (to account for the Elo-inflation bug).
- Users who disconnect during matchmaking are now correctly removed from their pending match. This should help reduce the number of erroneous 'failed to find match' errors.

Are you sure ELO was adjusted down? Tried 3 weightclass, in most of thegames (PUG) I was against a team much stronger than our and the only win of this evening was very hard to achieve and I had to play an almost perfect game with my strongest mech... (we were 3 assaluts against a team with 6 assaults).
It seems I have to do a lot of boring games were I get slaughtered to have my elo rating go down now..

Played a couple of matches with a friend ... we usually do "well", meaning winning something between 50 and 75% of our matches. But tonight we lost all of em - maybe just a rough patch. I don't know.

I still don't get how PGI re-simulated our ELO-scores. I mean - if the bug inflated our ELOs, there were a lot of matches that would have never happened.

Ok, you didn't succeed in tuning the weight class. Case in point, my last match was Four atlases on the other team, along with a few assorted heavies Vs. One Atlas, one highlander, two stalkers, a Jager and a few other assorted lights and mediums. If you weren't counting, that's not a balanced game. Thats a match as fixed as an Olympic Boxing Match.

I don't think the weight class matching is in place yet, just the mechanism to do it.

Otherwise I wouldn't have just had a game with 7 assaults (6 Highlanders) + 1 medium, vs. 4 assaults, 2 heavies, 2 mediums.

Correct weight class matching will be tightened as per Omids CC post once we've had time to monitor the data coming in from the new changes.

The weight-matching seems a bit off at the moment, but the games are much much more interesting than before the patch.
Right direction this is going!

First match...

A team of 6 Highlanders, Cicada and a Spider against our 2 Highlanders, Catapult, Ilya, 2 Dragons , Jenner and a Stalker. We've beaten them, but lost the Jenner in the process and their Spider proceeded to cap us out with us bein able to do nothing about it...

That is hardly equal.

Matchmaker is FUBAR. Placing 6 lights on one team and no lights on the other team is *redacted*. I don't care if total weight is balanced or not this matchup will always go one way.

Prioritize the damn mech type matching already. Your Elo isn't working anyway.

Sounds like heaven on Tourmaline or Alpine Conquest...for the lights, I mean.

I'm thinking the adjusted Elo scores are probably still screwed up because all the matches the correct algorithm were applied to were matches pitting people against each other based on flawed data. From the battles I'm seeing, I'm not sure if the fix is worse than the inflated scores. Either way, I imagine it will take a couple weeks for Elo to start really settling out.

Right now I'm seeing one sided match after match of the likes I haven't seen in a long time.

Matchmaking still does not work. Same complaints - some teams have 5 lights vs 1, or other issues. Player balance issues continue - where about 60% of the teams I play on had no real chance of winning.

Matchmaking the lack of weight balance can hurt as well as help. I was in a match in River City (conquest) where the other team had 7 Highlanders and a Jenner, and we still beat them. I lost more than I won today but the matches were good.

Color me weird, but after about 10 matches following the patch, I feel like I'm having fun again.

The matches (for me) seem to be more balanced tonight in terms of piloting skills--and also more balanced in terms of weapon load-outs used.

One game had the HUD bug, but the other nine were a lot of fun. I think the matching system has been greatly improved.

That is simply my own opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Yeah. ECM vs. No ECM. Still sucks. It still happens.

Not even fun. You need to put the DDC w/ ECM in a class by itself ...

Let's call it "Super Leet" ... and each lance needs at least one "Super Leet" mech.

... better yet, just remove ECM from the game entirely. You can't seem to fix it and the game was more fun before it existed.

Seems to be at least a little better. Two problems though:
1. ECM is not taken into account.
The team with more ECM has a definite advantage over the other team.
2. No class-based matchmaking.
With equal weights, teams tend to be either mainly assault/light, or heavy/medium. Assault/light has a very significant advantage. This is mainly due to mediums being underpowered.

I'd say this, now that the matchmaking is so tight, I'm seeing pretty much all Assault chassis games. Not a big issue, but it's made less dynamic and more predictable matches. I don't know how to answer the other end of it, where one team has one more assault vs your heavy. I'd say loosening up some of the class balancing is ok, as long as the players ELO is king during the matchmaking.

It might also be that theirs just a ton o Highlanders playing today, and that should work itself out in a week or two.

Not a significant difference in quality of matches.
Weight balancing doesn't work as long as lights remain more powerful than mediums.

That's the beauty of a properly functioníng Elo system, it could just do completely random matches, and Elo would still sort itself out to about where it is now (high and low end would probably differ, but for 80-90% of the players probably). Grouping people on teams based on rating is just to make matches more fun (fairer) since you get to play with/against ppl on roughly the same skill level.

I think this needs to be quoted every couple of posts until people actually read it.

I've only played 22 matches so far, but I think I may be starting to see a difference. Hard to say at this point though (or ever) because the fairness of a match is so subjective. Based on what I've seen so far, I don't feel like the recalculated ELO put me at the right place, but the system seems to be working better as I play more. Prime time matches are still pretty rough for a solo player though.
