Hello
I bought this PC just a few days ago and when i first ran a game i noticed something weird in my monitor. I believe you refer to it as flickering and it only happens if i am running a game. Even if i am on the loading screen after loading a game i doesn't flicker, but when the match starts....
so i was reading about it and it seems i have to change my refresh rate to 75 Hz in the control panel but i only have the option to use 60 Hz. In the control panel my monitor is recognized as generic non pnp. I couldn't find my monitor's driver (if there is one) at the acer's website.
info: Acer monitor S200 HL
VGA: Radeon 7850
8 Gb memory
mobo: b75m Gygabyte
PSU: Cougar Rx 500w

this is very anoying please help me D:

Your monitor wont go beyond 60 Hz.
There is a driver on the Acer support site
http://us.acer.com/a...content/drivers
(select by product -> Monitor -> S-Series -> S200HL -> your Operating System)

Only thing that comes to my mind that might solve your problem, is to toggle vsync in MWO and see what happens.

I've downloaded the driver, but i dont know what to do with them. I also run MWO with vsync on and there's no difference if it's on or off. Other games like Far Cry 3, The elder scrolls, Planetside 2 show this same problem.

if your video card is not up to date the control panel may hide some modes that your monitor does support. go back to the control panel screen resolution settings, and instead click on advanced options, then list all modes. this should show you all the valid hz available for your monitor at each resolution

Actually, if you can...try using a DVI-D or HDMI cable out from your video card to the monitor. Digital signal vs. Analog(VGA) is preferred for gaming on an LCD.

If you already are using one of the above, try swapping and if that doesn't work, I am thinking there is something up with the monitor's input board, or maybe a bad cable, etc.
Going 60hz out to a 60hz monitor should be flicker free, regardless of what's onscreen. Skipping, framerate lag, etc...is all video card/cpu driven usually. But flickering when a higher bandwidth signal is sent(desktop vs gaming/bluray, etc.), is almost always a fault of the monitor in my experience.

If it's brand new....try to get the monitor swapped for a new one.

Yes, i've tried that. In my current resolution, even with the unmarked box i can only use 60 Hz. If i change to 1440xsomething i can also change to 75 Hz, but the problem persisted.

I'm currently using one dvi-d to vga adapter because my monitor came with a vga cable. I've tried connecting the vga cable to the mobo, but my monitor was just black.

So i was playing Warface and i was able to change some settings. I downgraded the game's resolution to 1024 and i was able to change from 60 Hz to 75 Hz. With Vsync on the flickering was almost gone. Changing my monitor's resolution (from control panel) to 1024 and the refresh rate to 75 Hz didn't help the same way.

wish I could see the flickering, like henchman said 60hz should be fine, and what I heard is that the human eye cant tell the difference between 60-144hz. Some game video settings are controlled by the game and not by the desktop settings, so when you change the desktop you also have to go into mwo and the new resolution slected on your desktop should be available in the games options. One last thing that's silly but shouldn't overlook is unshielded speakers? I havnt read up on it a lot, but if you have speakers close to your monitor, try moving them close then far from your monitor over and over and see if the flickering fades in and out :lol. One mooore last thing that's caused flicker for me before was a fan plugged into the same wall socket as my monitor, when I turned the fan off, the flicker was gone ;), so many things it could be lol (edit: and your using a vga to dvi adapter, if your using a cheap one or one of poor quality I should say, may be a problem too. id tell you to try reconnecting it but I think you did already... sorry not much help)

I went to Catalyst control and saw that my refresh rate was at 75 hz xD so i dropped to 60 hz and the flickering decreased a lot for Warface and for Skyrim. For FarCry 3 even with vsync it's still easy to notice and for MWO.. it's the same thing :)

In catalyst Control center make sure the "use application settings" is the default choice.

Do you have a spare GPU?

What is the native resolution of the monitor/TV?

nm, tis 1600 x 900. Where you running the games at that resolution? And were you running it in Full Screen or windowed mode?

Changing resolution don't fix it. I think it doesn't matter if it's full os windowed. Cause the flickering starts right after i login to the game and my mechs start showing at the left side. When i am at the loading screen it doesn't flicker. When i'm at the start up sequence the flickering comes back. When i'm out of a match the flickering continues..

I have not seen a reply but for the video card settings, did you set everything to application control?

As for why the monitor would not light up when you connected the vga to vga is that the video card is not setup to send output through that channel (like with dual monitors).

The one way you can do it is to set to either extend or duplicate desktop in the control panel/display/resolution. Provided you are running Vista/W7/W8. If XP, then a slightly different route would need to be taken.

In CCC there is an option to use application settings, basically your settings inside the program override your CCC settings. i don't use AMD but it'll be under a menu similar to Manage 3D settings, try "use application settings".

I still think this will be Monitor or GPU related, do you have a TV with an HDMI port you can try your machine on to rule out the monitor?

hai, bring up the CCC, Gaming then 3D Application Settings. From there set things to application control.

It's all set to "use application settings".
Tomorrow i'll try to borrow a monitor to see what happens. I think it's GPU related

Try running in Full Window instead of Full Screen
