Well just my opinion here, but i think that they should limit the hard point changes on hero mechs to just moving around hard points form existing variants and picking the best parts of them if they want. So for example ilya was okay since they took the jumpjets from the catapult 3D and the abundance of ballistic slots from the 4X and combined them. So although there isnt another cataphract with 3 ballistics and jumpjets you can basically do anything you can do with ilya with either the 4X or 3D. Whereas with the stalker they've billed the Cbill varients and energy/missile boats and so the stalker hero should be energy/missile too.
As to why would people buy a non p2w stalker hero, well you're paying for the bonus, so people who already enjoy stalkers and want to use them to grind for cbills will buy it. Which i suspect is why some people are still piloting pretty baby because that thing has ******* terrible hardpoints. Since PGI presumably are going to eventually make a hero version of every chassis they shouldn't need to stoop to making the mc variants outright better in order to tempt people into buying them.
I see what you are saying (although Ilya doesn't have JJs..... I WISH it did, but Ilya is pretty ****** without), but for JUST the XP or Cash bonus ( I forget which Heroes get, tells you how much I actually pay attention to money and XP in this game, lol)I don't see people shelling out 30-35 IRL bucks for it. But by having that Ballistic? Probably won't break Heavy Metal's sales record (I honestly believe only a TimberWolf, UrbanMech or Unseen Hero will do that) but will definitely help drive them.
As for re-sorting the H-points.... I can't really agree because there are a lot of examples of "Hero" (or canon Fluff Character) Mechs with wildly no stock weapon arrangements. I do agree it has to be a "tread softly" scenario, as the P2W precipice can sneak up on you.

Having 20 DHS in it like mine does means you can get three full volleys of the 4x PPCs off without actually overheating (on colder maps: Alpine, Frozen City, Forest Colony Snow), and then sustain fire with 2 PPCs while you back off into cover to cool down; compare this to the standard 6x PPC stalker who overheats after the second alpha, and stays shut off for 10-30 seconds depending on ambient temperature.) The average of my damage is about 700 dmg / round, though my record damage in a round is just shy of 1400, and 1000-1200 dmg rounds are becoming more and more common for me. 3.5 KDR as well. And this is in the shabby netcode-environment where half of my direct hits don't even register to begin with and people get free passes on death (especially poptarts, it seems).
Given the above:
1) If I'm to run Gauss in a Stalker with 4 PPCs, I'm giving up 5-6 DHS. The "zero-heat trade-off" of the Gauss is crap because now it's going to take me just that much longer to cool down in the first place (God help me if it's Caustic or Tourmaline), my heat cap is going to be much lower also so I am fully overheated after about two salvos of PPCs, and I can sustain fire with what, 1 PPC while I retreat to cover? Also, PPCs are about to get nerfed, probably heat-wise, so all of these problems will be even worse post-nerf.
2) The Gauss on Misery is so much more low-slung that you'd have to expose yourself almost three times as much if you want to do alpha-snipes. And this is on a mech that can't do poptarting like a highlander. Since the purpose of PPCs on a Stalker, much like a K2, is taking advantage of those high arm-mounted energy hardpoints and firing without exposing yourself too much, I have to ask --- what's the point?
3) Without giving away my build preferences, I'll just say that there are, in my experience as a 4PPC stalker pilot, FAR better options for close-range defense than the Gauss.
4) Also, the Gauss will pop your side torso in almost no time. If you run XL you die, if you run STD you just lost over three fifths of your firepower and (probably) have no close range capabilities. Have fun with that.
I'll just say it again: 4x PPC 1x Gauss is a joke. It was a complete joke on the Atlas RS (when you even have 15 more tons to play around with!) and it will be a joke on Misery.

Mmm, dakka.
2 in the same area might be alreight, but certainly not multiples over different areas, SOmething like a 2 Gauss 4 PPC Stalker for instance would suck (well no it would be powerful, but it would attract jerks.)

I don't think that we'll see a 4xEnergy/1xBallistic-Stalker because heat management would be your biggest porblem. I am not sure if there will be one single build that makes sense with a ballistic weapon...
