I was playing another match when it happened. It was a Conquest match in Tourmaline Desert. I went to capture Epsilon point at G7. Before I went there the point was captured by enemy and I met an enemy's mech, who went to capture more bases without even paying a bit of his attention to my Awesome. Some time later I came to base and siezed it. And then I saw that light mech that passed me by before I came here. We started battling. He was much swifter than me and, so, he killed me. As always, I was seeing my mech dying and menu splashed. I pressed 'Spectrate' button and expected to start watching the battle from other players mechs' cockpits. But instead of that I was still watching my mech's corpse with crosshair somewhere far away with the only ability to chat and see a very limited area near my mech.

I do not know why this bug happens, but it might have something to do with commands that never get processed. Ever notice how some mechs when they die they never stop twitching or are still marching their feet? Anytime this happens to me, I will always be chained to that mech until the match is over with no chat abilities. It also seems to happen more often if your mech is in a state that should have the mech stop out of your control and then move again, if I jumpjet and get killed with the jets still burning once the mech is on the ground, i always get stuck on the mech and can't spectate. If I am killed while shut down, i always get stuck on the mech and cannot spectate. Maybe to go to the spectate screen you have to wait for server confirmation that your mech is dead and stopped and when your mech is still in a state of motion or is trying to move (but can't because it is dead), then the server won't validate you to go to the spectate screen. I dunno, maybe the next ask the devs can help.
