Hi everyone,

This my first post ever, so, HI!

I've playing mwo for 1-2 months now, and I'm loving it. My first mech is an AS7-D and most of the time played brawl builds.

Since past week, I'm trying a LRM boat build and just couldn't get how to lock LRMs faster.

I bought Artemis, even knowing that wouldn't help, then Beagle, for a not-that-good result(I know, 25%, I know).

Then I saw this tip before a match started, during load: Press 'R' when the red triangle appears to lock on target.

I was stunned.

I mean, I already searched a lot, am very familiar with smurfy mechlab, built my own sheet of weapon effiency basd on profile results and nowhere, absolutely nowhere, I saw this simple phrase:

Remember to press R when using LRMs

I've never played any mechwarrior game, so I'm obviously unfamiliar with the controls, but this one tip made a huge difference.

I'm posting this so more people know. Every game I see people stuck with LRM, hanging on a cliff, waiting for the lock to come, and I think they should come know this tip easier.

One of the best interfaces I ever layed eyes on, in terms of didacticity (ease to learn) is HAWX's interface. Mainly, because it shows a clever keyboard icon next to whatever you want to do. I think it should help(a lot) newer players to master the game faster.

Happy lock ons!!

This post shows the dire need for a better new player experience. Locking on to your target before firing LRMs is something every Mechwarrior veteran knows, but it is definitely not something that is immediately apparent to anyone who is new to the series.

I have some friends that I want to introduce to the series, but I don't even know where to start. This game is complicated, with no real explanation for how things work for new players. I'm crossing my fingers that things will be easier for new players to pick up by the time of "release".

You should be pressing R, LRMs or not. Helps the players that do have them, provides you with target info (weak spots etc) and helps everyone else see where the enemy mechs are.

You are absolutely right. The same goes for SRM. I will edit the title.

Untill there is a tutorial and private matches, get people to play mechwarrior 4, vengance or mecenaries first. The graphics are old but the single player experience and easier learning curve should be okay.

MW4 doesn't seem to work too well on modern Win7+ computers. The mouse aim is unbearably unresponsive and it's pretty much impossible to aim further than at point blank range.

As a side note, I'd avoid getting too heavy into LRMs until the 28th. They're really bad guns right now, but at the end of the month, they're getting buffed even stronger than they were before and I'm looking quite forward to it.

Compatibility Mode fixes most of this.

Are you running it in WinXP SP3 compatibility mode?
