They are still totally useless! I get that it would be prudent to wait until the patch is installed to verify this but seriously - the pace of change in this game is GEOLOGICAL. I swear the icecaps are melting faster than it takes to get something changed in this game.

It's taken a YEAR and you still cannot get a viable MG. Missles got broken nearly 2 months ago, the skill trees contain useless unlocks, the pilot modules are almost all totally useless, where is this going to end?

ARRRGGHH.

Okies. rant over. I suppose I'm going to just be grateful I even have one stompy robot game... grr.

It's only cool if we can shoot it out of the sky.

It might even snow in hell before we get to CW.

I disagree. It's an improvement.

Just a visual one, unfortunately. It seems unlikely you'll see many of the planes flying.

Yeah that was very ranty of me. Apologies just so frustrating, this by far the most slow paced beta ive ever been part of in my puff.

Anyhoo - I think airstrikes and arty as they are at the moment are an embarrasment and should be removed until they are "fixed" [isert how you want them fixed here].

Still downloading the patch and planning on a few hours playtime this evening, so that should tell you something ha!

You realize this was likely an art department change and not a game design/feature change - which is a different group right?

Look their life cycle has a pretty obvious (to anyone who worked in software dev, I guess) sequence.

Introduction --> Analysis --> Review --> Internal test --> Drop hints/info externally --> review feedback (If bad, go back to review) --> Finalize testing --> Deployment --> return to Introduction. (You're introducing a new patch/change).

Many of these items occur on different cycles:
So while missiles recently got hotfixed, they are currently on 'analysis'. Meanwhile the MGs, flamers, etc are on "Review feedback". Moreover, different groups (Art, Development, Design, etc) all operate with their OWN cycles. This means minor changes to the overall flow of their process. However, the end result is the same. Of all the groups at PGI it's pretty obvious Art has the fastest turnaround. So is it really that hard to believe that a minor change of putting in a model for airstrikes would occur before game balance changes?

Moreover, if you look at dev statements they specifically said they thought about adding more damage/upping it for airstrikes/artillery but are analyzing the data. However they'd be amenable to more damage for airstrikes if you could shoot the airplane out of the sky. I recall seeing that on one of the ask the devs.

Before you can do that, you need an airplane.

If you'd prefer I'm sure they'd love to package up months worth of fixes and drop them every 6 months instead like certain companies do that start with a B and end with 'ard'.

I had to laugh.

"We have taken a useless feature and added cool new graphics effects to it. Now you will never actually SEE these improvements because the feature is totally useless and no one in their right mind wastes a slot on this in its current form. Fixing the balance on this feature was beyond our abilities so happy PPC sniping".

It's a start, but:

The sound effects are still very weak.
The graphics are still very weak.
I've fired it twice and have yet to see the plane, which also makes no sound.
The upgrade still makes it worse (focusing damage so much you'll never hit with it)
The base damage is hilariously bad

This is talking about the Improved Air Strike too. God knows what the 10,000 cbill one does, if anything.

This is still the most amateur, pre-alpha thing in MW:O. Why they thought they should release this to the public in any way, shape or form puzzles me.

If they needed the MC all they need to do is open Variant Slots or something, rather than rushing features out that would be mocked out of a totally independent FPS mod 5 years ago.

Be advised: The Artillery and Air Strikes produce more visual/audio effects in a Live Battle than they do in the Testing Grounds.

ok, we tried it yesterday, twice normal and improved ait strike (and arty). My buddy said he saw the plane, very high up there... my mech obviously didn't have enough torso movement to even look that high, i didn't see nothing anywhere.

The only thing i saw was that tiny little beacon with its fluffy red smoke. After that there were some itty bitty little explosions light fires which make *puff* and those 40k C-bills ...*puff* and all enemies shot me to death after laughing at me.

Arty strike was a similar experience, not only do these things nothing, you don't even notice them.

Beside damage, if there's an artillery strike incoming, where are the big loud explosions? big smoke clouds, big bangs all arround, where's the KABOOM?

And Air strike? one plane? Why not send... lets say four? One lance? Are we on budget or what?

Obviously we are on a budget. It's a free game, what do you expect?

While it is interesting, they are still nearly invisible if you're not staring directly at the hit location, unfortunately.
