So, I'm pretty new to the game, and don't really know a lot yet. As my first 'mech I bought the Highlander 732, and I've done "okay" without customizing it. But I definitely want to get more out of it as a brawler - I'm not much of a sniper and definitely don't want to be a poptart, but I like the manuverability of having the JJs.

So, I've done some searching on the forums, and what I've found is that people love the 733c, but there isn't much about the 732.

I'd love to see some great 732 brawler builds! Anybody willing to help a noob out?

Thanks in advance!

If its your first HGN and only one, I'd start with a build like this:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...de21c068aa3656b

Then over time as you continue to earn cash and level out other variants, change your build and trick the ride out. 1 gauss rifle, 3 LLs, 2 SRM6s, 1 SRM4 with XL325 is amazing - but way too hot to run without the unlocks/2X basics...

I could see myself running this:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...63c368401154792

I mean, 1 jumpjet is 1 jumpjet... If you want a brawler, go with this. Srm6 require artemis, easy as that. srm4 fire more neatly, but they don't fire as much ^^

I've played highlanders quite extensively, especially as brawlers, and this is what I would go with. Awesome brawling potential, and extra long range punch with the gauss rifle.

I think either mine or banky's build are viable, but I prefer mine (but then i'm biased )

Yup, it's my first HGN, and it's my only one so far. I've unlocked all of the basic skills, but I still need the two other variants before I can move into the master and elite skills.

The only question that I have is, do I need an engine that large? Would it be better to go with a 300 and free up some weight for other things? Just wondering.

Thanks for the build. I really appreciate it!

Biggieboy ~

Thanks! I have kind of the same question though - why not go with a 300 engine and put some of the leg armor back on? Does 2 kph make that big of a difference?

Thanks again.

I have been having a lot of fun in my Highlanders. This is the version of the 732 I have been running http://mwo.smurfy-ne...deab23d1d156492. It isn't a brawler, but it isn't a poptart either. You could swap out the ppc's for large pulse lasers, which would give you a terrible punch at close range. Plus if you put in a BAP, you will be able to counter ECM after the next patch and use your streaks to wreck lights. Only thing is the XL 300 engine will be a huge risk if you turn this thing into a brawler. But hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

If you're not going to run a jump jet in the HGN - at least one of them - you may as well be running something else entirely. It's the defining characteristic of the mech. They're insanely useful and probably the best 2 tons you can spend on any build because of what it does for you offensively and defensively.

As for engine sizes, I've always found two rules to be true. If you take the maximum engine size for any build, you guarantee yourself 2 things. First you'll have as many engine heat sink slots as you can have. With the HGN maxing at 325, that's a big help on most builds. It also guarantees that you won't be the slowest thing on the field for either side (once you get speed tweak at least). You'll be less likely to get isolated that way or left behind when your team pushes or retreats without you. I haven't found any of the HGN's so constrained that a 325 (either STD or XL) won't fit into a build comfortably. Just like with 300 in the 8-series AWS - it's the perfect engine to build around.

This is my HGN-732. It's more of a versatile build than a brawler. I like how cool it runs as I could be a little trigger-happy at times. I'm using an XL300 that I already have lying around. It's possible to fit an XL325 in with slightly lowered heat effeciency but I'm too cheap to spend c-bills on it – saving up for Black Jacks/Orions ;)

I feel the 733C or 733 are better at brawling because of the AC20 (on 733C) and the extra ASRM6 (on 733).

Thanks everyone for the tips and builds. I really appreciate it. After looking at all of the builds, and the great advice, this is what I built:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...34eb3d287468cbc

Basically, this is a mix from several of the builds (and it was what I could afford). I can't complain at all - this thing really puts the smack down. My max damage previously was around 450. I took this out last night and put out over 900 damage in one match, with 3 kills and 5 assist. I'm loving it! Of course, opinions and suggestions are still welcome!

Thanks again, everyone!

I would just move the BAP into a torso rather than an arm, for a bit of safetey, but other than that looks solid, if a bit on the short ranged side, but that is what you wanted to begin with.

Been toying around with a number of things, but I've recently settled on this loadout for my 732

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...89c06d2a1fac555

those 3 LPL are absolutely devastating within 300 meters and the gauss gives you enough range to engage anything further than 600m out. The main thing about this build is that is very heat efficient. You could swap some dbl heat sinks out and stick in some jumpjets or streak srm's if you want a little extra fire power.

you should be putting guass ammo in the same arm as the guass itself, and just so ya know that build would be better for heavy metal

also here is just a straight up upgrade over stock
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c32a00a06def360

feel free to remove lrm20 and put in more srm launchers, all up 2 you, imo thats just a better starting point then stock to help you know what you want
